They both move forward and strike a salute.

“I need you to deliver these hard drives to Sergeant Lucas immediately,” I command.

“Yes, Sir!”

They take the stack of drives from Julian and head out of the room.

“We should get going too,” I say, turning my attention back to Julian. “The Black Widow will soon realize something’s off about Jake not responding to them. When they don’t see him stepping out of the house to go to work, they’ll go in to check on him. I don’t want them combing the neighborhood for him while we’re here.”

“I wish we could go through more of the stuff we downloaded,” Julian says, suppressing a yawn.

“We need to take you home, Julian,” I say in a grim tone. “You can go through the whole mess of data when you’re safely inside Solveig Estate.”

“I guess so,” he says with a shrug.

“Hey, sleepy head,” I say, prodding Simon’s cheek. “Wake up.”

Simon makes a disgruntled noise but opens his eyes. “What do you want?”

“We’re taking the rest of our force and escorting Julian to Solveig Estate,” I tell him. “Come on. It’s not safe to be hanging around here any longer.”

We’re about to gather together when my phone rings. Taking it out, I see that Seth’s calling me.

“Hey, what’s up?” I ask, taking his call.

“Where are you guys?” he asks.

“We’re about to leave our post,” I say. “I’ve already asked Arthur and Crawford to carry the backup hard drives to Burton Estate, so they’ll be there within the hour. Simon and I will take Julian home.”

“How many men do you have with you right now?”

My gaze roves over the tired-looking young men in the room. “About six.”

Seth lets out a heavy exhale. “They’re not enough but it’s good that you’re making a move. I was followed all the way to headquarters this morning, so I know that Senator Vaughn is still sending these bastards to spy on me.”

“What about Jake Hudson?” I ask.

“The asshole’s still breathing,” Seth says with a scoff. “Don’t worry about him. He’s not going anywhere with our men watching him.”

“I wish I could see him with my own eyes,” I say as a cold rage builds in my chest. “He has a lot to pay for after the way he treated our girl.”

“You’ll have your chance this afternoon,” Seth says in a cold tone. “For now, make sure Julian reaches home safely.”

“All right. Let’s meet back at Burton Estate.”

I look toward my companions as the call switches off. “We should get going now.”

“Are we going to Solveig Estate directly?” Julian asks as our guards start filing out of the room.

“Yeah, that’s the plan.”

“I was hoping to celebrate our win with breakfast at a diner or something,” Julian says with a hopeful grin.

“Sorry, buddy,” I say, slapping his shoulder. “We can’t screw around today.”

Julian turns toward Simon.

“Sorry, Big Bruh’s already made it clear we’re to take you home,” Simon says with a shrug.
