A naughty grin comes onto her lips. “Sorry,” she mutters. Moving closer to me, she winds her arm around mine. “Let’s go for a drink. I’d love to catch up with you and you can tell me all about your mates.”

I glance at my watch. “I’d love to catch up but I need to take a rain check. Seth will be here any minute to pick me up. Since he’s in town, we’re going to visit his cousin who’s just had a baby.”

“You’ve changed so much,” she says with a sigh. “The old Rory would’ve canceled everything for a chance to party.”

“I was an idiot,” I say in a grim tone.

Kaida shakes her head. “Don’t beat yourself up about the past. You’ve come a long way and I believe you’re going to go even further. Your art is amazingly inspiring. I want to write an article about this exhibition for Omega Era, so I want to interview you.”

Surprise flickers through me. “You’re working for Omega Era?”

Kaida grins, her eyes shining with excitement.

“Wow!” I gush. “That’s awesome!”

“So, what’d you say?”

“Sure, I’d love to do an interview!”

Opening her purse, she brings out a sleek black business card. “Get in touch with me and we’ll set up a time and place,” she says, handing me the card. “We’ll go for a drink afterward and you can tell me all about your mates.”

I’m about to accept her invitation when my gaze falls on a tall figure in the distance. My heart leaps, sending a rush of excitement through me.

“Seth,” I call out, waving at him.

Kaida turns around at my reaction and stares at Seth’s figure.

“Hey, love,” Seth says, reaching me. His powerful arms engulf me in a gentle hug while his nose skims along my neck. “I missed you.”

My arms tighten around his neck as I soak in his intoxicating rosemary scent. “I missed you too.”

Warmth surges through me as he captures my lips in a kiss.

I moan into his mouth, feeling giddy at the first taste of his lips. Lost in his embrace, I forget about everything for a moment.

Someone clears their throat loudly. “Hello? I’m still standing here, you know.”

Seth breaks away and stares at my friend.

“Sorry,” I mumble a quick apology as my cheeks flame. “This is Seth. He’s one of my mates.”

“He’s in the military?” Kaida asks, her gaze fixed on the gold badges on Seth’s maroon uniform.

“Yeah, he’s a captain of the Burton Pack.”

Kaida’s eyes widen. “Wow, so you’re a part of the Burton Pack now?”

I nod, smiling. Turning toward Seth, I add. “This is Kaida. She’s an old friend of mine.”

“It’s nice to meet you,” Seth says, politely offering her his hand.

“You too,” says Kaida, taking his offered hand while winking at me.

“Why don’t you stay a while longer and look at the other pieces in the exhibition,” I tell her. “We can discuss them for the interview you’re planning.”

“Oh, yeah. I do plan on staying longer.”

“Let’s go,” Seth says, capturing my wrist. He steers me toward a different hallway and leads me to my office.
