My mates turn around to face me.

“Did we wake you?” Seth says, pulling his trousers down before I can get a look at the wound they were talking about.

Reaching him, I kneel in front of him before he can stop me.

“Rory, stop—”

I push his hand away and pull the hem of his trouser.

A thick, bloody gash runs down the length of his left calf. The skin around the wound looks horribly torn.

My fingers hover over the wound. I’m scared the lightest touch will hurt Seth. “How did this happen?” I whisper in a choked voice.

“I think it happened when we were escaping the mansion,” Simon says. “Seth threw a chair at one of the windows, smashing it to bits. We made our escape through it, so I’m guessing his leg got caught onto glass shards when he was running.”

A shuddering breath escapes me. I look toward Oliver and Simon, scared that they’re hurt too.

“What about you guys?” I ask, staring between them. “Are you hurt too?”

“Rory, get up,” Seth says, gently holding my shoulders and pulling me to my feet. “They’re both fine. I’m the only one who got careless.”

“We need to clean up that wound right away,” I say, moving toward the bathroom.

“Rory, we’ll do it,” Oliver calls after me but I’m already inside the bathroom and grabbing the first aid box from the cabinet under the sink.

“You guys should prepare the shot,” I say, walking back inside the room. “In the meantime, I’ll clean up his wound.”

“Are you sure?” Simon asks, taking a step toward me. “You don’t look too good, darling. Why don’t you let me and Oliver handle this?”

I shake my head. “I’m fine. Please, you guys...” My voice chokes up as my fingers tighten around the box in my hands. “Please, let me help.”

Seth moves forward and wraps his arms around me. “Hey, it’s okay. Don’t cry over a small scratch like this.”

A sob escapes me as tears fall down my cheeks.

“Rory, hey,” Simon whispers, coming to stand next to me and Seth. “Sweetheart, don’t cry. It’s all right. We’re all okay.”

A rush of emotions cascade through me, turning me into a sobbing, gasping mess.

I hate my past with Jake. Every mistake I made is coming back to haunt me once more. And this time, I let my mates get hurt.

“Simon, Oli...just go and get the syringe,” Seth says in a loud voice. “Rory, can clean up the wound for me.”

Wiping my eyes, I stare up at him.

Warmth settles into Seth’s green eyes. How can he still be so kind to me?

“We’re on it,” Simon says, giving him a mock salute. “Take care of our bruh, Princess.”

“I will!” Grabbing Seth’s arm, I lead him toward the bed. “Relax,” I say, pushing a cushion behind him. “Does it hurt to move your leg?”

“Not really,” he says with a shrug. “The wound stinges, though.”

A closer look gives me a glimpse of the bits of flesh that are hanging out of the injury. Most of the blood has clotted but the center still looks raw.

“You don’t have to do this,” Seth says gently. “Simon and Oliver can take care of it within minutes.”

“I can do this,” I say, opening the first aid box. I take a ball of clean cotton and soak it with antiseptic solution. “I’m going to start cleaning the wound now. It’ll sting, so just bear with it for a while. I’ll be quick,” I assure him.
