“Where are you right now?” I ask.

“I’m about to get into my car. Why?”

“Rory wants to meet Iris. Do you know if she’s home?”

“She does?” he responds in a surprised tone.

“I just told her about Iris and she’s excited to meet her.”

“Hold on a second.” I hear a familiar voice in the background as Seth makes a quick query with someone nearby.

“Caleb says it’s okay,” Seth says. “Both Iris and Julian are home today.”

“Awesome! We’ll be leaving right away, so expect us to reach there in another hour.”

“Simon, wait,” Caleb says in a lowered, concerned voice. “Is Rory sure she’s up for it?”

“I’m definitely looking forward to meeting her,” Rory chimes in from beside me. “Simon told me the story about the time Iris helped you guys capture Nox Callahan. I’m so inspired by her that I want to meet her. Of course, if she doesn’t mind seeing me,” she finishes with a mumble.

“Iris would love to meet you,” Seth says in a lighter voice. “I was just worried about you.”

“I’m fine but what about you?” she asks with a concerned expression. “Is your leg giving you trouble?”

“Nah. I barely feel it.”

“Liar,” she mutters with an annoyed huff.

A chuckle sounds from my phone. “Seriously, Rory,” Seth says in a reassuring tone. “I’m fine. Just hurry up and come over here.”

Rory glances at me.

I give an encouraging nod, drawing a happy smile from her.

“All right, then,” she says as her smile broadens. “We’ll see you soon. I love you!”

“I love you too,” Seth says softly.

Picking up the phone, I disconnect the call. “Let’s go,” I say.

With a sudden move, she pounces on me. Hugging me tightly, she whispers, “I love you so very much too.”

Warmth floods my chest at her confession. Holding her close, I breathe in the scent of ripe peaches and cloves. Rory is all I’ll never need to feel complete and happy.

The sound of the front door being opened reaches my ear. Looking up, I glance toward Simon.

“Hello?” A familiar voice shouts cheerfully. “Anybody home?”

“It’s Oliver,” I say, feeling a hint of warmth in my chest. “I didn’t think he’d come home this early. Do you think he’d want to come with us?”

Before Simon can answer, Oliver walks inside the room with a bright grin.

“I thought I heard voices,” he says, stepping toward us. His gaze sweeps over his brother before fixing on me. “Hey, you look nice,” he says, moving toward me.

“Thanks,” I say, chuckling. “I’m about to go meet Iris, so I dressed up a little.”
