As our car starts moving forward, I glance backward and watch the three military trucks following us. Their presence reinforces the danger that’s hovering over me and my mates.

“That was such a good dinner,” Simon croons, leaning against me.

His warm weight is comforting, allowing me to relax instantly.

It’s not long before soft snores sound in my ear. Glancing at Simon, I see that he’s fallen asleep.

“You guys must be exhausted,” I say in a soft voice.

Oliver turns around to gaze at his snoozing twin. A gentle expression spreads on his face as he looks at me. “It’s all right. Si wouldn’t have fallen asleep if he wasn’t feeling warm and comfortable.”

“You guys barely got any sleep last night,” I say, remembering the events that occurred yesterday. “I can only imagine the trouble you guys went through to rescue me from Vaughn’s house.”

“None of it matters,” Oliver says. “As long as you’re with us, we can take on anything.” A large yawn escapes him, making him rub his eyes violently.

“Would you like me to drive?” I offer. “You can catch a nap too.”

“Nah, it’s fine. There’s barely any traffic right now, so we’ll reach home soon.”

Looking out of the window, I watch the dark woods pass by. The Solveig Pack soldiers diligently follow us, making me feel protected. There’s no way the Black Widow would try to attack with them tailing us.

Soon, the familiar surroundings of Burton Estate come into my view. Warmth flares through me as I look forward to going home with all my mates.

Simon continues to snooze as our car enters through the gates of the estate. We pass by the impressive Burton Manor and make our way toward our cottage.

“I don’t want to wake him up,” I say as the car comes to a stop.

“It’s all right,” says Oliver. “I’ll take him inside.”

Climbing out, he opens the door on Simon’s side. Entering the car, he gently pries his brother’s arms away from my shoulders and pulls him away.

“Let’s go, you big doofus,” Oliver says, hauling Simon on his shoulder.

Simon mumbles sleepily as he hangs from Oliver’s shoulder.

Oliver carries his twin inside the house while Seth talks to the leader of the soldiers who came with us. Climbing out of the car, I make my way toward him.

“Do you feel tired?” he asks as the trucks back away and drive down the road.

“Even if I’m tired, it’s nothing compared to how you must be feeling,” I say, looking up at him. “How does your leg feel? Does it still hurt to move?”

“The antiseptics burn a little but otherwise, I’m fine,” he says, pulling me against him. “Alphas heal faster, so I’ll be fine in a few days.”

“That wound will leave a scar,” I say in a small voice.

“I’m a soldier, Rory. My body is filled with battle scars. An extra one won’t make much of a difference.”

I hug him tighter, wishing I could protect him.

“Can you take the day off tomorrow?” I ask as we head toward the cottage.

“Why? Is there something you want me to do?”

I shake my head. “You need to rest. You, Oliver, and Simon barely got any sleep last night. It’s already past midnight now. I don’t want you guys falling ill from overworking.”

“We’ll be fine, Rory,” he says, kissing the top of my head. “I want to know about you. Did you like meeting our cousin?”

“Iris is amazing!” I gush as we enter the house. “She’s singlehandedly the coolest omega I’ve ever met.”
