We each tied our respective horse and took up a hose. I stood between the two horses, spraying off Jet’s shoulder, when the slash of cold water hit my back and soaked my shirt.

“Rae!” I turned.

“My bad.” She didn’t look sorry as she ducked under Flower’s neck to smirk at me.

So I hit her with a burst from my hose. I’d aimed for her thighs. Her eyes went wide, and she actually sputtered. Ha, I’d rendered her speechless—first time for everything.

I shrugged and turned back to Jet’s bath. The truce only lasted a few moments. She aimed her next spray at my ass. And it was colder than I’d expected.

I spun and doused her front. Zero remorse.

Her shirt clung to her chest and stomach like the start of a wet tee shirt contest. Bathing horses just got way more fun.

“I can’t believe you did that.” She plucked at the wet fabric, giving me an excellent view of her wet bra and damp breasts.

“I’ve got more where that came from.” I wagged the hose at her.

She replied with a burst that hit the center of my chest.

I pounced.

The sprayers fell from our hands, and I pressed her against the wall at the back of the wash stalls. I held her wrists above her head and anchored her in place with my hips. It was amazing the wet clothing trapped between us didn’t give off steam.

“Unless you tell me no, I’m going to pick up where we left off this morning.” I searched her face for any hint of her thoughts.

“That a promise?” She arched her back and rolled her hips. Her wet shirt strained, showing off the hard points of her nipples.

“Rae, what are you asking for?” In a moment of sanity, I asked for clarification. I had to know where I stood before I took this risk.

“Why can’t it be more than one night?” She looked into my eyes, the playfulness of a moment ago replaced with sober honesty.

I released her wrists and stepped back, putting a foot of space between us.

“Why? Because. You’re leaving for California as soon as you can. You’re my boss’s sister. And you want to pimp the ranch to sell wine.” I shoved my hands in my back pockets, not sure I’d keep them off her otherwise.

“Other than that. Although, I want to come back to the pimp the ranch comment at another time.”

“Isn’t that enough?” I looked at a puddle on the wet concrete rather than her.

“We have different goals. Who cares?”

“What are you asking for? Be very specific.” I needed zero confusion, and as most of my blood was already rushing south, it needed to be spelled out in graphic detail.

“I want you. No strings. Just sex. No one has to know.”

This had bad idea written all over it. But if no one knew…

“Is it ever just sex?” That first night, I knew I’d lose my head over this woman. My prophetic words were coming back to bite me in the ass, and I didn’t care. I was diving, eyes wide open, into complications and extenuating circumstances to have her again.

“At our age? I think we can pull it off. It’s not like I might accidentally get pregnant. That ship has sailed. As long as you don’t leave more visible hickeys on my neck, no one will know.”

“Elmer is a very small town. People will gossip. They already are.” I’d heard a few whispered comments around town, and that was before I almost kissed her at The Pub. And my guys would have already shared the story of her stealing my hat. This town loved rumors and rarely got any that featured me. A juicy tidbit like this would spread like wildfire.

“Let them talk. We’ll deny everything. What’s the worst that could happen?”

My shoulders shook as I tried not to chuckle. The worst, honestly, I did not know, but making that kind of statement was tempting fate to show us.

“And what about Wilson?”
