The Jack was a bad idea. The fucking pizza was an even worse idea. But the worst idea altogether? Turning up at Angelica’s flat, sneaking in with the pizza delivery guy, like I didn’t have a fucking key made months ago like a crazed stalker, and kissing the shit out of her.

What the hell was I thinking?

At least I made it out of there and back to my own apartment before Armageddon erupted out my ass. Imagine if it had happened at her place. I would have had to quit my job and move cities.

I don’t even think moving back to Italy would have cured my embarrassment.

I may as well go home, join the Family business and sign my life away if that happens.

As I stumble out of the bathroom, I catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror. My eyes are bloodshot, my hair is a mess, and my skin is sallow. I look like shit.

I look like my brothers.

But it’s not just my appearance that’s bothering me. It’s the memory of what happened last night. The kiss with Angelica. It’s not that it wasn’t amazing – because it was. It’s just that I know it was a mistake, because it feltsoright.

How am I meant to go back to working opposite her, having her hate me when I’m so crazy about her?

I make my way to the kitchen and pour myself a glass of water. As I sip it, I try to figure out how I’m going to face her at work on Monday? At least I don’t have to see her today.

I just need to focus on getting through this hangover and severe flare up, before figuring out what the hell to do next. Maybe I can avoid her for a few days at work until things cool down. But who am I kidding? Angelica is always on my mind, whether I’m drunk or not.

From the very first moment I set foot inside the agency, her throaty laugh reached my ears and drew me to her like a moth to a flame. Her long, dark hair and soulful brown eyes had me entranced.

All I wanted to do was get to know her better, but from our first encounter she seemed to have it out for me – and I’m still unable to determine why six months later.

After that kiss though, I know I’ll never be able to get her out of my head. I know it’s wrong. I can’t have feelings for her. She’s my coworker, younger than me by a mile, and I can’t risk messing things up at the agency.

But every time she looks at me, I feel a pull, a desire that I can’t ignore. Like my soul has found its other half and it’s guiding me home.

I let out a sigh and rest my head on the kitchen table. Maybe I just need to talk to her and clear the air. Tell her that it was a mistake and that we should forget about it.

But what if she feels the same way Ireallydo? What if she wants more than just one kiss? She certainly didn’t respond to me like she hated me last night.

I can’t help but wonder how far I might have gotten with her if my guts hadn’t decided to do a wobbly on me.

As I ponder my options, my phone pings with a message. I groan, knowing it’s probably work-related, but I check it anyway. My heart skips a beat when I see that it’s from Angelica. How did she get my number?

I check the time; it’s late. This can’t be a work thing at quarter to eleven on a Friday night, surely.

Angelica

Hey, are you okay? I heard you were sick and didn’t see you in the office today. I guess that’s what you get when you eat food that doesn’t belong to you.

I stare at the message, feeling a mix of relief and apprehension. This is my chance to talk to her, to clear the air. But what if I say something stupid? What if she doesn’t feel the same way I do?

I take a deep breath and start typing a response.

Thanks, I’m feeling a bit better now. Really sorry about last night. I didn’t mean to impose on you like that.

A few moments later, she replies.

Angelica

You didn’t impose. You broke in.

AND you stole my fucking pizza.

My heart races, but that’s all she sends. I wait, eagerly anticipating a follow up message, but nothing more comes. That’s it. Twelve little words that give me zero indication of what she’s thinking or feeling. How am I supposed to respond to that? Is she pissed at me? Shedidsend a text to check on me.
