He walks into the room, looking around nervously, before turning to face me.

“I’m so sorry, Angelica,” he says, his voice low and heartfelt. “I spoke to reception and they assured me that this room is mine…and yours.”

“What?”

“There’s only one booking. This room is…ours.”

“It can’t be. That’s insane. There’s only one bed.” Fuck knows why I feel the need to state the obvious. But suddenly the huge inviting bed I was gushing over an hour ago suddenly seems tiny at the prospect of having to share it with Lycus.

No. No way.I can’t.

He grimaces. “I know it sounds crazy, but it’s true. We’ve been double-booked. I didn’t know what was going on when I walked in here and saw you in the bath. I thought it was my room.”

I’m still not sure I believe this is happening, but I can see the sincerity in his eyes. I mean, why would he lie anyway?

“Can you get another room?” I ask carefully, wondering why the company didn’t book two rooms and already knowing that I can’t afford to pay for a second room.

Maybe, at a push, I could go halves with Lycus on a second room. If they do one more basic than this one. Like, in the basement next to the boiler room or something. It’s not that I’mpoor. I’m just frugal. “This can’t be happening.”

“They’re fully booked for the weekend,” he replies with a shake of his head. “I’ve already tried.”

I groan, feeling a headache coming on. This is not how I planned this getaway. My shoulders are already tensing up again.

“Well, what are we going to do then?” I ask, feeling frustrated.

He looks at me, a glint in his eye that makes me feel uneasy. “Well, there is one option,” he says slowly.

“What is it?” I ask, wary of his tone.

“We could share the room,” he suggests, a smirk tugging at his lips.

I stare at him, dumbfounded. Is he serious? There’s no way I’m sharing a room with a colleague, let alone with a man that just walked in on me in the bath.

“No.” I shake my head. “No. Just…no. Not happening. Find a different hotel.”

“They’reallbooked. There’s some big convention onanda concert for some massive rock band with this violinist chick, so everywhere’s all booked up. They’ve got me on standby in case of a cancellation though.”

It’s on the tip of my tongue to demand he sleeps in his car, but that would make me a real bitch…wouldn’t it?

It’s not like I have any other options. It’s either share a room with him or sleep in the hire car. Fuck. Could I? Sleep in the car that is.

Shit. No.

“Okay,” I say, with a resigned sigh. “But let’s get a few things straight. No walking in on each other without knocking. And definitely no funny business.”

He nods in agreement, looking relieved.

“Thank you, Angelica. I promise, I’ll make it up to you.”

“I’m not finished yet,” I snap.

“Of course, sorry.” He looks chastised, but I swear the emeralds in his eyes are twinkling. “What else?”

“You have to sleep on the floor,” I demand, folding my arms over my chest.

“What?” He blinks at me and then his brows draw together in a frown.

“It’s the floor or the chair. We can’t share a bed.”
