The liquid burns down my throat, but it does little to calm the storm raging inside me. I can feel eyes on us, assessing and curious, and I wonder what kind of people frequent a place like this.

Lou grabs my hand excitedly, pulling me towards the dance floor where bodies move in a hypnotic rhythm. I try to lose myself in the music, letting it wash over me and carry me away from my mounting discomfort.

But with every passing moment, I feel more out of place, like an imposter in a world I don’t belong in. And, crazy as it sounds, I feel like eyes are on me, constantly watching my every move.

As the music pulses through the club, I can’t shake the feeling of unease that washes over me. Lou seems to be in her element, dancing and laughing without a care in the world.

Her friend Odi even joins us for a couple of dances before she’s pulled away by the scariest looking mother fuckers I’ve ever laid eyes on.

But for me, every beat feels like a reminder of how out of place I am in this environment. The air is heavy with a mix of perfume, sweat, and something more primal that makes my skin prickle with discomfort and need.

I try to keep my composure as we navigate through the crowd, but I can’t shake the sensation of eyes boring into my back. It’s as though every person here knows that I don’t belong, that I’m an outsider trespassing in their world of decadence and desire.

Lou’s grip on my hand tightens as she leads me through the throng of bodies, her excitement palpable. We weave through the crowd until we reach a secluded corner of the club, where a group of people are gathered around a small stage.

“What’s going on?” I ask, my voice barely audible over the thumping bass.

“It’s the auction,” Lou replies with a grin. “Let’s check it out.”

I hesitate, my mind racing with all the reasons why I should not participate in such a spectacle. But a strange sense of curiosity begins to gnaw at me, mingling with the fear and apprehension that cloud my thoughts.

Against my better judgement, I let Lou guide me closer towards the stage where the auction is about to begin.

“Odi told me that Candy’s best friend is auctioning off her virginity tonight!” Lou whispers to me.

“What?! Is that even allowed?!” I whisper-hiss back, shocked.

Lou shrugs. “They’re saving her til last. But first there’s all sorts of items and things up for grabs.”

The room falls into a hushed anticipation as a spotlight shines on the stage, revealing a figure standing confidently at the centre. A knot forms in my stomach, but I can’t fathom why.

It’s not like I’m up on stage, though once again it brings back memories of how my night at ‘Wicked Temptation’shouldhave gone. I send a quick prayer of thanks to Claire for letting me hide in the room and wait instead.

Doing it like this would have been far too nerve wracking for me.

The MC’s voice booms through the speakers, announcing the rules of the auction and emphasising consent and boundaries. I watch as a mix of excitement and nervousness dances across the faces of the attendees.

And then, the first item is brought onto the stage – an intricately designed leather collar adorned with silver filigree. My breath catches in my throat as bids start flying in from all corners of the room. The atmosphere crackles with energy, each bid raising the stakes higher and higher.

As the auction progresses, my initial discomfort begins to ebb away, replaced by a strange fascination with the proceedings unfolding before me. Each item presented on stage tells a story, evoking desires and fantasies that I never knew existed within me.

And then, a new item is brought out – a delicate chain harness that glimmers under the bright lights. The crowd murmurs in appreciation, and my eyes are drawn to it like a moth to a flame. Before I can stop myself, my hand shoots up in the air, placing a bid that surprises even me.

The room erupts into cheers and applause as the MC declares me the winner of the auction. I feel a rush of adrenaline course through me as I step forward to claim my prize, the weight of the chain harness cool against the palms of my hands.

The crowd’s cheers fade into the background as I stand there, feeling the weight of the chain against my skin, its intricate patterns intertwining with my own vulnerabilities and desires.

It’s as if this simple piece of jewellery has the power to unlock something deep within me, a part of myself that I never knew existed before Lycus and my night at Club Ecstasy.

Surrounded by the pulsing music and eager gazes of the crowd, I feel a sense of power and freedom unlike anything I’ve ever experienced before. Lou’s eyes widen in surprise and delight as she watches me, her expression a mix of admiration and curiosity. She reaches out to touch the chain lightly, a silent gesture of understanding and support.

“I want to go and put this on,” I tell Lou and she nods eagerly. “I have to pay for it before I leave. I’m going to find the rest room, I’ll see you when I get back.”

“Do you want me to come with you?” she asks. I shake my head no.

“I’m fine. See you in a minute. Don’t disappear on me.”

“I won’t,” she promises with a sincere smile.
