Lycus steps closer, his hand gently lifting my chin to meet his gaze. “You don’t have to say anything, Angelica,” he murmurs, his voice filled with a tenderness that pierces through the tumult of emotions swirling inside me. “I just needed you to know the truth, to understand the depth of my feelings for you. Whether or not you feel the same way, I couldn’t bear to keep it hidden any longer.”

His words echo in the silence that envelops us, the world outside fading into insignificance as we stand locked in this moment of truth and vulnerability. Everything I thought I knew about Lycus, about us, feels like fragments scattered at my feet, waiting to be rearranged into a new truth.

As I search his eyes for any hint of doubt or deceit, all I find is sincerity and a love so profound it leaves me breathless. A flicker of something unspoken passes between us, a shared understanding that transcends words.

“Lycus,” I begin, reaching out to touch his face, tracing the contours of his jawline with trembling fingers. “I... I’ve never allowed myself to feel...” The words catch in my throat, emotions welling up like a dam about to burst.

He leans into my touch, his eyes never leaving mine. “I understand,” he says softly. “Take all the time you need. This doesn’t have to change anything between us if you don’t want it to. But I couldn’t go on pretending that my heart wasn’t yours to hold.”

A tear escapes my eye, trailing down my cheek. He swipes it away with his thumb.

“All I’m asking for is a chance. Let me show you how much you need me, how deep my love runs.”

“I’ve never been in love before, never experienced heartache until that day when I thought you’d betrayed me?—”

“I would never?—”

“I know that now. Mr Alpine set the record straight, and I’m so ashamed of my actions, for running and not giving you a chance to explain,” I quickly clarify in a rush. Then I take a deep breath and force myself to continue.

“But that pain, the agony I felt when Ithoughtyou betrayed me? Torture like that can only come from a place of love. I don’t know when it happened or how, but I fell for you, Lycus, and losing you was a pain I never want to experience again.”

Lycus’s eyes soften, a look of understanding and tenderness washing over his features. He pulls me into his arms, holding me close as if afraid to let go.

“Angelica,” he whispers, his breath warm against my ear. “I never wanted to hurt you. I never meant for things to escalate the way they did between us. But I promise you, with every fibre of my being, that I will spend the rest of my days making it up to you, proving to you the depth of my love…if you’ll let me.”

I bury my face in his chest, inhaling the familiar scent of his cologne, mingled with the unmistakable scent of him. His heart beats in rhythm with mine, a steady drum that anchors me in this moment of vulnerability and truth.

“I don’t know where we’ll go from here,” I murmur, my voice muffled against his shirt. “But I want to give us a chance, Lycus. I want to see where this path leads us, together. Because… I love you too.”

He tilts my chin up to meet his gaze, his eyes brimming with unshed tears. “I’ll take whatever chance you’re willing to give me,” he says, his voice filled with a mix of hope and trepidation.

“I’ll spend every moment proving to you that my love for you is real, that it’s enduring and unwavering. Do you want to get out of here, Angel?”

I shake my head. “No. I have a better idea.”

He stares at me quizzically, his thoughts not going to the same place as mine.

Leaning in close, I whisper in his ear, “Why don’t you give me a private tour of the club…Sir?”

ChapterThirty

Lycus

Her lips caress the shell of my ear and I have to close my eyes to concentrate on her words because her smell is so damn intoxicating.

“Why don’t you give me a private tour of the club…Sir?”

My dick reacts instantly and I swallow hard, understanding what Angelica is asking of me. Appreciating the gift she is giving me. Her voice is like silk, caressing my ears as she voices her desires.

I didn’t come here tonight to get under Angelica. I just hoped we could clear the air, maybe reconcile our differences. I was fully prepared to walk away and let her go.

But as soon as I saw her I was reminded how captivating she is and I fell under her spell once more. That’s why I beat that guy to a near pulp for putting his hands on her.

She makes me crazy.

Confessing my love wasn’t part of the plan, but now the truth is out there, I feel a million times lighter.

I don’t want Angelica to think I’m taking advantage of her. I take a deep breath, attempting to regain my composure, and open my mouth to gently rebuff her when she pouts and turns those beautiful big eyes on me.
