Igo back and forth on what I should wear, so I end up FaceTiming Alexis. "Hey," she says as she picks up the call. "What's up?"

It's dark where she is, and there's a song in the background. "Hey, are you at the bar?"

"Yeah, pulling the afternoon shift. The normal girl called in. We're dead though, so feel free to give me something to do."

I turn the phone so she can see my bed. It's littered with the remnants of all the clothes I've tried on. "I'm finally going to see the falls. What do I wear?"

"Who are you going with?" She raises an eyebrow. "That's going to tell me what you need to wear."

I jut my hip out. "What does it matter who I'm going with? That makes absolutely no difference."

"Yes, it does. It makes all the difference. Spill."

I hate that she's always right and can read me so well. "I'm going with Abel, he asked me if I'd ever been. Of course I haven't. He offered to take me, and I said yes. Are you happy now?"

"So, you definitely want to look cute."

"It's like you didn't hear anything of what I just said to you," I roll my eyes.

"Oh, I heard it all, but you fail to remember I was here on Halloween and saw that hot as fuck kiss the two of you shared. You've been dancing around each other for an entire year, Kara. It's time for you two to stop and act on it. Like all of us are feeling sexually frustrated for you."

I snort loudly. "You are not feeling sexually frustrated. If anything you are more sexually satisfied than you've been in your life. Those are your words, not mine. Don't give me that shit. Just help me pick out an outfit to wear because right now, I have no idea what to do."

She sighs heavily. "Okay, show me what you've tried so far."

I turn the phone back to my bed. "I thought about that," I point toward a black tank top. "But I know it's kind of chilly, and I've heard it's cold once you get close to the falls. However, I've never been there, so..."

"Alright," she leans into the counter, and puts her chin in the palm of her hand. "Don't you have a flannel in there somewhere? Thought I saw one."

"Yeah," I reach down, grabbing a pink and gray button-down. "I got this when I moved here, so I could try and fit in."

"Ugh," she mumbles. "It's so annoying that everyone here thinks you can just wear a flannel and become one of us. We're not easy to infiltrate like that, Kara. To become a member of the community, you have to do more than wear a flannel, ripped jeans, and a pair of hiking boots."

"Are you sure?" I raise an eyebrow. "Because that's exactly what I'm planning to do."

"We're adopting you, so it's not going to matter in the end. But yes, wear both of those, along with that pair of ripped jeans. He likes your ass, and that pair shows off your ass well."

"How do you know he likes my ass?"

"You're so oblivious. He pays attention every time you wear them. I've personally seen him checking your ass out when you wear them. So, I'm saying wear those.”

Inhaling deeply, I center myself. "Okay, I have a better idea of what I need to wear. Thank you for all your help, bye." I don't wait for her to say goodbye, I disconnect the call and go about putting the outfit on. Now what to do with my hair and makeup? God, I hate being so fucking indecisive. "Stop Kara. He's liked you from the beginning how you are, it's not like accepting a date with him will change any of that. Just be who you are."

I wish I believed my little pep talk with myself.

An hour later my stomach is in knots as I wait for Abel to show up. I've styled my hair three different ways, and have talked myself out of changing my shirt twice. When I hear his truck pull in the driveway to my duplex, I jump up from the couch and run to the big way window. Glancing out, I see Abel sitting in the driver's seat. His lips move, and then he opens the door and steps out. He's wearing a pair of jeans and a hoodie - all of it is well-worn and fits his body in such a way it seems as if it's a second skin. A comfortable one that he doesn't want to shed.

Turning from the window, I hook my fingers together to keep from going to the door and throwing it open before he knocks. My stomach is jittery when I hear the thump, thump, thump of his knuckles on the wood. I count to ten before I go over and open it. "Hey," I smile shakily.

"Hey," he smiles back. The way his lips curve is cute as hell. "You ready?"

"I am, do you think I need a jacket?" I stick my hands in my pockets, to try and keep from doing anything awkward.

"Since we're going to be walking, we'll probably not have to worry about being cold, but I always bring a sweatshirt and beanie no matter what. I brought you some."

I swallow roughly, thinking about putting his clothing over my body. Will it smell like him? I'm never going to give it up if it does. "Thank you, I really appreciate it. I'm excited to go on this hike with you."
