God he's such a dick.

When I walk up to the two of them, I nod toward her. "Can I talk to you?"

She looks as if she wants to say no, but Nolan grabs his drink. "I'll leave you two alone. Let me know if you need anything."

"You told me you wanted a gesture, and I don't have anything to give you right now, except this." I hold out the top to the bottle of beer. "It doesn't mean anything other than I realized something here and now."

"Yeah?" She takes it from me. "What's that?"

"I realized I'd like to be the person who's out here dancing with you. Well, maybe not dancing with you, because I have no rhythm."

She snorts softly. "I've seen you dance. You can stand here and I'll dance around you? How's that?"

"I have absolutely no issue with you being the person that others are looking at when you're on my arm. The only thing I care about is that you come home with me. I can't promise I'll always know what you want..."

Kara leans in, kissing me on the cheek. "I don't expect you to read my mind, Abel. I'm a good communicator. All I want you to do is be honest with me, and put in the work when I ask you to."

"So, am I supposed to shake my ass for you, or what?" I question, giving her a grin.

"Yes, please," she laughs.

Grabbing her hand in mine, I pull her out to the dance floor. "You dance, and I'll do my best to follow."

She clamps my hands on her hips and when a moody song starts playing over the speakers, her eyes lift up to mine and a smirk spreads across her face. Slowly, her hips start swaying to the beat and she slowly presses closer to me. My palms flatten and fingers expand against her hips and thighs. Her tongue slips out, running over her lips.

"You can move the same way as me," she flirts.

"Trust me, I can't move the same way as you." I almost choke on the words.

"Maybe I can show you some of my secrets."

My mind goes to places it shouldn't. Not this quickly. I shouldn't be imagining what she looks like with no clothes on. I shouldn't be envisioning her hair against my pillow, with nothing else covering her body. "You can trust me with your secrets."

She leans in, kissing me softly, before pulling away. "Out of anyone I've ever met, you're about the only person besides Alexis I would allow to know them."

That's special. She and Alexis are tight. They trust each other like Barrett and I trust each other. "I'll hold that close, Kara. I promise."

"I know you will. I wouldn't have admitted it if I didn't think you'd respect it."

Here, on this dance floor, in the middle of Monroe's, it feels as if we're the only two people in the world.

CHAPTER FOUR

Kara

I'm sweating an hour later. We're still on the dance floor, and I've somehow convinced Abel to start shaking his ass. He's starting to have fun now that Barrett has joined us on the dance floor. I think I even saw Boone and Alexis heading over our way. Jasper sits at the table, arms crossed over his chest, brooding as it is normal for him.

"Your dad," I point.

"Jesus Christ," he throws his head back, laughing. "This is the first time I've ever seen him on the dance floor."

"Didn't want you to be the only member of the family to turn in his man card," Boone winks, turning Alexis around in a circle.

He gives Boone a look. "Not turning in my man card if that's what she's asking me to do."

My eyes rake over his body. He's taken off the button-down shirt he had on, and is now in just a white undershirt. Because of the heat of the bar, there's a spot of wetness in the middle of his chest. Running my hands down his arms, lingering at his forearms, before I entwine our fingers together, I use his strength to turn myself around in a circle, until I'm dizzy. Giggles break from my throat.

When I come to a stop, he gathers me against his chest, holding me tightly as I try to get my bearings back. "You make me dizzy."
