I slid a hand up his chest to wrap my arm around his neck. I grabbed his shoulder roughly with my other hand and bounced once on the balls of my feet, wrapping my legs around his waist in the next second. Caius caught me without breaking the suction on my neck. The hand that was on my nape, dropped to my ass, taking a generous handful.

I groaned when he flipped the cup of my bra down, pushing my breast up. His fingers rolled my nipple between them, making my back arch. The sensation sent a pleasurable ache that settled between my legs.

“Caius,” I murmured, grinding myself against him. My heated center brushed up and down the length of his bulge, providing the friction I was desperate for.

“I love hearing you say my name.” My body tightened, only to be found achingly hollow. But he could change that.

Caius twisted and my back pressed against the wall. Next thing I knew he rolled his hips and white flashed behind my eyes. My head tilted back, and I let out a low moan.

A series of heavy thuds banged on his bedroom door. “Caius, we've got a problem out here.”

My head snapped up, my body tense as sanity rushed back to me.

Caius growled low, sensing the change. Then he sighed. I dropped my legs, but he didn’t step back, instead letting me slide down every agonizingly hard inch of his body. Only when I was on my own two feet did he step back, but not before kissing me one more time. It was brief but lingering. A promise.

When Caius opened the door, I was back to looking like me, bra in place and all that. Albeit more off kilter.

Pol stood there, giving me an apologetic glance, and knowing without a doubt he’d pissed off Caius beyond measure.

“What?” Caius ground out through clenched teeth.

“This can’t wait. Reagan, you should probably come with.”

Caius nodded, silently taking my hand. Lacing his fingers through mine, he held me tight as we followed Pol.

To those we passed, it was a gesture indicating we were together, sending a message to everyone to spread the word.

I could hear the whispers already, and we hadn’t even made it to the other side of the castle.

The king had claimed his mate.

Was that ... barking?

High-pitched yelps echoed down the hall. I glanced over at Caius. “Do you have a dog?”

“Several,” he said. “But none of them sound like that. My girls are hunting dogs, trained to track down the vilest of men should they escape imprisonment. Their barks can be heard miles away. That yapping is definitely not my girls.”

His word of choice gave me a sinking feeling. I hoped I was wrong. That the barking was not in fact a certain dense cousin of mine, but as we entered the atrium my hopes were dashed.

A black floof darted between one guard’s legs and down one of the five paths that led away from the portal. Another guard dashed to grab him. Nog dodged smoothly, pivoting his three-inch legs, and bolting through the purple ferns, disappearing from sight. If not for the shaking plants that showed where he was, there would be no telling.

“Oh for fuck’s sake,” I muttered, running one hand down my face.

“Is that—” Caius started.

“Yep,” I answered. “My dumbass cousin seems to have evaded your guards and slipped through the portal.”

I’d say that reflected poorly on his people, except Nog could bereallypersistent when he wanted something. Knowing him, he camped out by the portal and waited for someone to go on a bathroom break. While he was a bit of a klutz in real life, his corgi form seemed to be fairly agile. Given his legs were literally three inches off the ground, that wasn’t surprising.

“Reagan!”

I turned toward the voice and froze before I could take even a single step. This could not be happening. It couldn’t.Hewould not be that dumb?—

Ben closed the gap between us, and Caius stepped directly in front of me, body checking him swiftly. Ben flipped mid-air and landed flat on his back beside me.
