Caius encircled me in his arms. “For you, my love, only you.”

When he pulled away from our embrace, he lowered to a squat as he leaned over Ben, speaking to him in a menacing whisper.

“Did you hear that? For her. Just this once. Mark my words. Touch her again, and you die. Reagan ismine.”

That word. The way he said it.

Goosebumps erupted along my arms, and my skin simultaneously flushed. The notion that he would protect me so fiercely, so openly, and without question. It was hot, to say the least.

Not that I ever wanted him to do it, but he just threatened to kill someone for touching me ... and it turned me on.

Pretty sure that meant I was going to Hell.

Oh wait. I was already there. Guess that makes it okay.

Chapter21

Caius

Standing up, I wrapped my arms around her again.

Never in my life had I felt so right, so complete, as I did when I held her. She thought I wanted what she guarded, and I had—until I found her. My soul wasn’t what made me feel whole.

Only my mate.

I had always viewed myself as a good king. Fair and just, though I ruled with strength. That didn’t stop the rage that coursed through me. It was true the only reason I let him live was because she had begged me to. The moment her voice softened, her words pleading, I was reminded that she was simply perfect in every way.Shewas fair.Shewas just.

Reagan would temper my fury. She didn’t see it, but I did. My queen would be exactly what I needed and who she was always meant to be.

Unequivocally mine. The Queen of Tartarus.

We weren’t there yet, but we would be.

A sharp bark shattered my peace.

My hand clenched in a fist as I narrowed my eyes at the monstrosity called adog. More like an overgrown rat.

I peered into his dark brown eyes, and despite the cute and cuddly appearance, there was keen intelligence there. He knew exactly what he was doing.

Which meant he had to go.

“Shift,” I commanded.

Bones cracked and he let out a pained yelp. A human boy appeared, not quite a child, not yet a man.

Naked as the day he was born, Nog covered his manhood and looked up at us bashfully. An apology lined his eyes, but a knowing smirk lessened the attempted contrition.

Little shit.

“Hey Rea,” he croaked. “How’s it going?”

Reagan released me and I instantly missed her heat. She twisted to look at her cousin and I yearned to grab her and pull her flush to me once more.

“Seriously, Nog?” She sighed, frustrated but not angry. “You put yourselfandBen in danger coming here. What were you thinking?”

“Hey!” He held up both hands then thought better and went back to shielding himself. “You don’t know it was me?—”

“Ben isn’t smart enough to come up with how to bypass the two guards on the other side.”
