Theystood from their table, and after he shookCole’shand, he capturedHazel’smuch smaller hand in his.

“Thankyou for inviting me,” she said softly as they walked back to his car. “Thisis the most funI’vehad in a long time.”

“Thankyou for saying yes,” he replied.

Theydrove back to theInnin contented silence, their fingers twined together over the center console.Hedidn’t want to stop touching her.Hedidn’t want tonight to end.Therewas something about being withHazel…it all just felt so easy.Effortless.

Likemagic.

Hepulled his car under the porte cochere at the front of the inn, intending to walk her to the door, say goodnight, and then head back to his cabin.

Asthey stepped out of the car, the still beauty of the night hit him.Themoon was still full, lighting up the sky with silvery beams, casting soft shadows along the front of theInnand the quiet parking lot.Theroad was deserted, the only sounds the leaves rustling in the trees andAdam’sheart pounding in his ears.Thebreeze picked up, rufflingHazel’shair, and she leaned against one of the thick, wooden posts of the porte cochere.Shesmiled at him, one corner of her lush mouth kicking up, and an answering kick echoed, low inAdam’sgut.

Hebraced his hand on the post above her head, sliding his other arm around her waist, the pull he felt towards her utterly irresistible.Likehe was hypnotized. “Ilike you,Hazel.Alot.Maybeit’s not cool to say that after one date.Idon’t know.Idon’t date much, and franklyI’mtoo old for games.”

Shelicked her lips, pulling his gaze downward. “Ilike you, too,Adam.”

Helowered his head, waiting for alarm bells to go off.Inthe past, if something had been this easy, he would’ve questioned it.Hewould’ve had to examine it from every angle, looking for flaws and traps and mistakes waiting to happen.Butthere were no alarm bells.Onlythe beating of his heart, loud in his ears, sparks flickering through his veins.

Hecould feel her breath against his mouth, smell the sweet cider on her breath.

Andthen a siren erupted from about thirty feet away.Theyjerked apart as though they were teenagers caught doing something wrong, andAdamlet out a groan when he sawJack’spoliceSUVin the parking lot.

“Geta room,” he teased through the megaphone.

Adamwas going to kill him.

Hazellaughed and ducked her head. “Oneof your brothers,Iassume?” she asked with a little smirk that madeAdamwant to kiss the shit out of her, audience be damned.

“Jack, yeah.Doyou want to witness me strangling him, or shouldIsave that for later?” he said, a slight groan to his voice.

Shelaughed again. “Maybethat’s our sign to call it a night.”

Heswallowed. “Yeah, maybe.”Heheld up his hand and flippedJackoff.Lightsstill flashing, theSUVretreated into the night.

Thenext chance he had to cockblockJack, he was taking it.

Hazelstarted to move toward theInn’sfront doors, and it was like something snapped insideAdam.Thegentleman in him knew he should letHazelwalk away.Goup to her room.

Butfor once,Adamdidn’t want to be a fucking gentleman.

“Fuckit,” he growled, and wrapped his fingers around her wrist, tugging her against him.Shegasped and her eyes fluttered shut.

“Yes,” she whispered, and that was all he needed.

Hislips met hers, and she gasped again, her breath shuddering against his mouth, tangling with his own sharp exhale.Heslid an arm around her waist, the other tangling into her hair as he pulled her tighter against him.Shelet out a soft moan, shredding the last of his restraint, and he deepened the kiss, his tongue swiping against hers.Hegroaned at the silkiness of it, his blood heating to a low, needy simmer.Hishand tightened in her hair, and she opened for him even more.Invitinghim in.Invitinghim to take more of the heaven she was offering him.

Shewhimpered and clutched at his sweater, holding him close.Anintense feeling of possessiveness washed over him unlike anything he’d ever experienced before.Hedrew back slightly, catching her full bottom lip between his teeth.Alow growl pushed up from somewhere deep in his chest, a sound he didn’t even recognize.

Fuck, one taste ofHazeland he was gone.Done.

Sheswayed into him, and he held her tighter, his forehead resting against hers.Theywere both panting as though they’d just run a marathon.Sheslowly uncurled her fingers from his sweater, smoothing out the wrinkles she’d made.Wrinkleshe didn’t give a shit about.

“Holyshit,” she whispered, staying exactly where she was.

“Holyshit,” he agreed. “Thatwas…unbelievable.”

Shelet out a little laugh. “That’sdefinitely one word for it.”
