“Yes.” She leans closer. “Do you?”

Without another word, I grab hold of both shoulders and crush my lips against hers. It’s an insatiable, primal act, born from years of unquenched longing, of lust, of love. Her mouth is pliant and eager, igniting a fire within me that nothing else in this world could ever match.

It’s sweet cherries. It’s pure heaven. It’s an overwhelming sense of peace.

It’s finding my way back home after an eternity of aimless wandering, and I never want to be lost again.

LILA

THREE YEARS AGO

Callum:you avoiding me???

Lila:no, just busy with midterms

Callum:you sure?

Lila:yep.we’ll catch up soon

Callum:okay. was hoping to celebrate. you know I’m up for D1 freshman of the year?

Lila:that’s incredible, cal. you deserve it

Callum:some of the other guys are pissed

Lila:well, you always were a showoff

Callum:funny. come out with me on friday?

Callum:hey, you busy this week?

Callum:my parents are visiting this weekend

Callum:alright, Li, guess I can take a hint.

NOW

Callum gently cradles my face in his hands, his dark eyes searching mine. “We wasted so much fucking time,” he whispers, voice hoarse with emotion.

“I know,” I say, equally raw in my admission. But the weight of the past few years seems trivial now, insignificant in the face of what’s unfolding between us. “It doesn’t matter anymore.”

“You’re right,” he rasps, his lips trailing a path of featherlight kisses down the sensitive skin of my neck. “It doesn’t. I could’ve waited a lifetime for this.”

“We won’t waste another second. I want you, Cal. All of you.”

He pulls back slightly, brow furrowed with concern. “Tonight? Shouldn’t we take it a little slower than that?”

“We’ve taken it slow enough.” I laugh softly, a mix of amusement and affection in my tone. The idea of waiting any longer seems absurd now.

“But I haven’t?—”

“Don’t tell me you’re a virgin. I find that very hard to believe.”

“No, I’m not . . . I mean, it’s been years since we . . . I didn’t know if—I just didn’t know,” he confesses, gaze dropping. “I’ve been with a few girls since freshman year. I just, I wish I hadn’t.”

“We can’t spend time regretting the past.”
