“I don’t know. I assume if he had it built, and his friends know about it.”

“And have keys.”

“I think only Tobias has a key. Not to overshare but it’s a thing for him.”

I kind of knew that. Not that I’m going to say it. But Tobias had a sex tape go viral last year, and he became the poster boy for exhibitionism for a minute when all the tabloids seemed to have blind articles about his predilections. At least until he and Scarlett made their relationship public and all they could talk about then was how the playboy had finally been locked down by a history nerd.

“Ah. So Gabe’s just helping out a friend then.” I smile.

“I mean… I don’t hate him for it. This room is fun.” Scarlett grins.

“I honestly had no idea. Would have never guessed in a million years. I mean… I know or I assume he has plenty of women. We never talk about it. But that he is this…” I trail off. I don’t even know what to call it.

I have a sudden flash of him in this room, shirtless, sitting in the chair while a woman gets on her knees for him. I can see his face, the slow close of his eyes from the way she touches him. It sends a flutter down my spine and into my stomach when she suddenly morphs into me. I feel the flush go to my cheeks, and I’m thankful this room is dark.

“Kinky?” Scarlett offers.

“What?” I ask abruptly, my voice thick, and it’s obvious I was daydreaming.

“He’s kind of known for it. I mean, not to go all Joss on you, and I obviously don’t know what your friendship’s like, but if you need someone to help you figure out if the problems with your fiancé are a you-thing or a him-thing. You might already know the right guy for the job.”

“Oh. Um. We’ve never… I’ve never thought of him that way, and I’m sure he’s never thought of me like that. I think I’m an honorary sister. Gin even calls me Aunt Aurora.” I give a half-hearted smile because my mind’s whirring with thoughts of Gabe. Ones I don’t know what to do with.

“Oh. Well. That’s too bad. Like I said.” She waves her finger in a circle to indicate the room around us. “Right man for the job. But I guess maybe not for you.”

“Right.” I nod.

I see movement out of the corner of my eye, and it’s Gabe starting for the side of the bar. Scarlett’s eyes follow mine.

“Well, we better get out of here if you don’t want him to know you know.”

“Definitely not.”

We both hurry for the door, and Scarlett locks it behind us just in time. We only get a few steps before Gabe meets us as we walk back to Tobias.

“What are you two up to?” Gabe grins at us, and I can tell how much he loves this place from how his mood has fully lightened in the short time we’ve been here. The stress of work and practice and taking care of Gin melting away.

“Just giving her a quick tour of the place. Wasn’t sure if you’d get a chance to.” Scarlett grins at him.

“Ah. Well, thanks.”

“It’s amazing. I’m so proud of you.” I smile at him. When his eyes meet mine though it’s almost like he can see through me. There’s a lingering question in them, and they fall over my face like he’s searching for the answers. He won’t find them if I can help it.

CHAPTERSIX

Gabe

By the time we’re heading out of the bar, Aurora’s had her fair share of drinks. We almost get to the lot when she stops abruptly, turning and waving at Joss, Violet, and Scarlett who are also following slowly behind their guys. They wave back, and Joss beckons her over one last time. She runs back to the girls and hugs them, pausing to listen to something Joss is whispering in her ear before she’s beside me again. I raise an eyebrow at her, but she just laughs again, and it’s infectious because I’m smiling before I even know what’s happening. She’s leaning on me as we walk still amused with whatever Joss told her.

“You going to share?” I ask, smiling when I see how much better she looks already now that she’s had some time here away from the stress of the wedding.

“Share what?”

“Whatever Joss whispered to you before we left.”

“Oh. No. Definitely not. That was top secret stuff.” Another round of laughter, and she squeezes my arm tightly as we get to my truck.

We’re halfway back to the house, listening to music while she hums along.
