“Because you are. I’m not making it up.”

“Okay.” He didn’t try to deny it. “I’ll work on it.”

“I’ll retract my request to be an intern in the morning.”

“They were never going to allow that.” He smiled. “Nice try, though.”

“Even with me being okay with the pay decrease?”

“Anyone who passes the bar exam isn't allowed to be an intern at the firm,” he said. “That’s just how it works. If you’re interested in being our new barista, though, we might make an exception.”

I held back a laugh and plucked the stopper with my toes, letting the water begin to drain.

Damien moved back as I inched back against the tub.

He watched me step out and put on a robe, but he didn’t let me tie it shut. Instead, he bent down on his knees and pressed his mouth against my pussy.

He gripped my ass to hold me still, and I grabbed a fistful of his hair.

Blowing against my clit, he slid a hand between my thighs, gently teasing me with the pads of his fingers.

“I love you…” The words tumbled out of pleasure, not feelings, and he blinked a few times.

“I…I didn’t mean that,” I said. “I was just caught up in the moment.”

He was still blinking.

“I barely know you,” I said. “I was just—It felt really good and I’ve never had that done to me before now and I was—”

“I’ll see you at the hearing this evening, Miss Tanner.” He saved me from myself.

“Yes. I’ll see you there.”

I tappedmy fingers against my kitchen counter, staring at the clock as the seconds ticked toward my departure time.

I can’t believe I dropped a love bomb on Damien during sex.

I didn’t think I would ever live that down, and I was determined to avoid making eye contact with him for as long as possible.

Opening the door, I stepped back at the sight of Damien.

“I wasn’t lying about meeting you there,” I said. “I’m leaving now.”

“It’s cancelled.” He held up his phone. “They sent an email about it an hour ago.”

“Oh. Well, good.” I avoided his gaze. “Did you leave something?”

“No.”

“Thanks for letting me know about the cancellation.”

“You’re welcome.” He tilted my chin up with his fingertips, forcing me to look into his eyes.

“You didn’t need to send me a million texts apologizing about what you said.”

“I sent younine.”

“It was nine too many,” he said. “There’s nothing to be embarrassed about, because I think you simply left off part of the sentence… I believe you meant to say that you love fucking me.”
