“What an asshole. You still have nothing to worry about. I’ll make sure of it.”

“If only you could be my hero, Sebastian, but that’s not possible.”

“Don’t put it past me, Big Red.”

I could tell he had something up his sleeve.

“What are you thinking?” I asked him, cautiously optimistic about the answer.

“About how much I enjoy it here.”

“Why can’t you operate your business from Colorado?”

“Because my clients are on the East Coast.”

“That’s why God created planes as well as Zoom calls and even email. You know, so little problems like that could be solved.”

He slowly turned his head, his gaze drifting from sheer amusement to something akin to pure filth. I licked my lips on purpose, my heart racing even faster than it had before. A part of me knew I should shut this down, the attraction as overwhelming as everything else in my life, but when I was around Sebastian, it felt as if I could take on the world.

“He did, huh? I didn’t know that,” he said as he eased his wineglass onto the hearth, reaching over and taking mine from my fingers. He lingered for a few seconds, purposely allowing them to touch. “You’re a brat.”

“I think you like that about me.”

“It just makes me want to tame you.”

“Not possible. But I’ll tell you this. Stay with me, big man, and the things I’ll teach you will rock your world, maybe even burn it to the ground.”

He slipped his hand around the back of my neck, forcing me closer. “Well, I do like playing with fire, Big Red. In case you haven’t noticed.”

I planted my hands against his chest. “At least there’s one thing I like about you.”

As he lowered his head, I found my breath ripped away, the ache in my heart something I’d never felt before. I so wanted to let go around him, to share in joyful moments instead of stolen ones of passion only. But fate had other things in mind.

“Just one? Maybe I need to convince you there’s more. Do you have any idea what I’d like to do to you, Big Red?”

The way his nickname for me oozed from his lips was just about the sexiest thing I’d ever heard. “What?”

“I have the need to protect you because even right now you appear spooked, a baby fawn ready to bolt because of the creature standing in front of her. But the bad man inside of me, the wolf in disguise wants to set you free in the wild, hunting you like the predator I am. And do you know what I’ll do when I catch you, my sweet prize?”

I don’t think I’d ever heard any man’s voice this sultry, the low timbre creating another tingling series of vibrations. “No, what?”

“I’d devour every single, delicious piece.”

I was ready to fan my face from the heavy steam he emitted. “Oh,” I whispered, no longer recognizing my voice.

“Is that something you’d like, my little fawn, for a big bad wolf to ravish every inch of you?”

And I no longer recognized his either, my mind spinning from the rush of pheromones. Could he smell my burning desire? Did he know how aroused I was, ready to beg him to fuck me?

“Yes,” I managed, uncertain I’d even spoken.

“Mmm… Are you dying to surrender, to have all your control taken from you?”

“I… Yes.” Why lie. That’s exactly what I wanted from him. My entire body shivered from head to toe, prickling like a thousand little firecrackers going off in my body. When he cupped my face, I was thrown by his powerful hold, as if he would never let me go.

Another spasm tore through me like a thousand orgasms occurring at once.

As if I’d been electrocuted by a million volts of current.
