However, he’d mellowed after leaving the company to my father, his move to Colorado changing him entirely. However, what if one of his old enemies had resurfaced, determined to bring him down for something he’d done in his past? Whatever was going on, I had a feeling my grandfather’s death hadn’t been an act of God but one of man.

I would hunt the bastard down.

“Good morning. Again. City slicker.”

Her voice still held the soft hint of the passion we’d shared, the lilt immediately drawing me out of my level of ugly concentration. As soon as I lifted my head, the effect of seeing her in a different pair of blue jeans and a crimson tee shirt, her long hair piled on top of her head was enough to tighten my balls.

“Good morning, Big Red. How’s Britta?”

“She’s watching a little television. I told her Mommy needed coffee.” She lifted her mug, laughing softly as her eyes swept the desk. “Working already?”

“Just trying to figure out why Hank so desperately wanted me to sell the ranch.”

“Because he’s an asshole.”

It was my turn to laugh, although the ugly threat continued to nag me. “That much I buy.”

“I overheard a conversation Walter had with Hank about a month or so ago about selling. I could be wrong, but it seemed as if Hank was pushing him into meeting with a buyer.”

“Yeah, likely the same one he forced me to meet with at his office.”

“I saw you leaving. I was having lunch with my girlfriend, Megan. She told me to go for you.”

The way her face flushed sent a direct shot of longing straight to my cock. “Oh, she did, huh?”

“Yep. She even asked if you had a brother.”

“Well, as luck would have it, Jackson is coming into town later today. He happens to be single.” She had the same effect on me as she had before, making it easy to smile around her.

“Arrogant businessman, sexy stranger, not bad company, and now a matchmaker. I wonder what other skills you have up your sleeve.”

“I guess I might need to stick around for you to find out.”

“Maybe you should,” she whispered, her tone dripping with sexual innuendos.

“Be careful there, Big Red. Remember wolves do bite.”

“I’ll take my chances.”

“Mmm…” I shifted my gaze to the threat again, finally easing it onto the desk. “I think I need to tie you to my bed to keep you in line.”

She laughed. “Not a chance, city slicker. No matter what you think, you don’t own me, Sebastian. Granted, I’m certain women fall at your feet all the time.” She rolled her eyes, teasing me.

“You might be surprised.”

“Maybe, but I’m not certain of anything. Sadly, I have to work this morning at the gas station.”

“I don’t like you working there.”

“I need to make a living. You already know that.”

I lifted my eyebrows, enjoying the way she was looking at me. “Maybe we can work something out so you can quit your other jobs.”

“What, and become your personal little vixen?”

“Something like that. Although I kinda like your idea of a wedding venue.”

“Oh, really?”
