I knew Nico was taking a break from work—and that he had a sizable inheritance that allowed him to do so—but I didn't know what his profession used to be.

I knew Ryk was a painter, and I'd seen some of his work—they were absolutely gorgeous—but as far as I knew, he only sold a few of them. Where did he keep the rest of his paintings? Was his room just full of canvases stashed everywhere?

Then there was Star. I didn't know what work he did before he came here, but I knew he didn't have a job now. I didn't know if he also had an inheritance like Nico, or if he had savings, but they'd all paid rent for six months in advance, so I didn't have a reason to worry about it.

Still, that was all I knew about their professional life, and I knew even less about their personal lives. In the beginning, I’d felt like they might be together, but Divya had confirmed they weren’t. I still thought they had feelings for each other, though, but I didn’t think we were close enough for me to ask them about it just yet.

Usually, I wouldn't give a shit about their personal—or romantic—life. Hell, before they'd first moved in, I'd planned to only be casual friends with my roommates, and now here we were, having dinner together.

I'd wanted to draw clear lines between us, but they'd somehow never been drawn. Ryk, Nico, and Star had fascinated me since day one, and I wanted to know more and more about them.

Had they really been raised in a cult? Or had I just understood that wrong? Did they have feelings for each other? Did I have a shot with them?

I blinked, surprised where my train of thought had led me. Was I... interested in them?

I snuck a peek at the men around the table, my eyes roaming from Ryk's bouncy curls and bright blue eyes, to Star's dark eyes hidden behind his hair, to Nico's curvy frame so close to me I could almost feel his warmth against my bare arm.

As I noticed all these details, I became hyper-aware of just how stunningly good-looking my roommates were. It wasn't like I didn't know that or hadn't noticed before. Their looks demanded attention, and I was only human.

They, on the other hand, were closer to angels than humans. Beautiful, kind, sweet angels who I couldn't help but feel drawn to.

"Okay, movie time!" Ryk exclaimed, pulling me out of my thoughts. When did I finish eating? When did the others?

"How about you go pull up the movie while Star and I clean up?" I suggested, and he grinned quickly before racing off into the living room.

"I'll help," Nico offered, and I shook my head.

"You cooked, so we'll clean. It's only fair," I said, and Star pointed at me.

"What he said. Now go make sure Ryk doesn't pick a movie only he will enjoy."

"So no horror, then?" Nico said in a teasing voice, and Star glared at him.

"Definitely no horror," he growled, and Nico raised his hands in surrender before leaving the kitchen.

"You don't like horror?" I asked as I started stacking the dishes, and he shrugged.

"I like sleeping. Horror makes it hard to sleep," he said with a shrug, though I could see the slightest hint of pink coloring the tops of his ears.

"Yeah, that's reasonable. I don't hate it, but I'm not a fan either."

"So what kind of movies do you like?" he asked, and I hummed softly as I started rinsing the dishes and placing them in the sink. I needed to get a dishwasher to replace the old, broken one. It was the only thing I'd decided to do once I had some roommates, and yet I kept forgetting every weekend. I'd do it next weekend for sure.

"Uh, you'll probably think it's boring, but I like real-life stories. I don't really enjoy reading, but I like history, so I'll watch any movie if it's about something that happened in real life. Like I said, boring," I said with a smile.

"Nah, it's not boring. I think I'd like movies like that. I feel like I have no idea what all has happened in the hu—the world recently. Maybe we could watch something together sometime," Star said as he brought over the empty bowls and utensils.

"I'd like that," I said, smiling over at him, and my heart skipped a beat when he smiled back. Fuck, I was in so much trouble.

"Can we cause a storm or something so Dakota has to come back and stay home for a few days?" I asked, gazing up at Star. Moon was glaring at me from over his shoulder since I'd taken the cat's usual spot in Star's lap, but I ignored him in favor of gazing up at Star. I hadn't realized just how comfy Star's lap was, and unless he told me to, I wasn't moving for at least an hour.

I held my breath when Star reached for my face, exhaling softly when he pushed a strand of my hair away from my forehead.

After the revelation that we were mates, I'd been equal parts worried and excited.
