Dakota's eyes widened, and he shook his head. "Right! I almost forgot about that."

"Can we cuddle now? Pleaseeeee?" Ryk whined, and I chuckled as I wrapped my arms around him.

"Lost your patience, huh?"

"What patience?" Ryk said, cracking me up with the deadpan delivery.

Nico increased the bed's size while Dakota watched on with a look of awe. If something as simple as this put a look like that on his face, I couldn't wait to show him everything we could do.

Ryk leaped onto the bed the moment Nico was done, then nagged at us until we joined him. It took a couple minutes to find a position that worked for everyone, but by the end of it, we ended up with Nico in the middle and Dakota and me on his either sides, and Ryk spread out over us, with his torso leaning against me, his legs thrown over Nico's and his feet buried beneath Dakota's legs.

"Is that even comfortable?" I asked as I scanned his stretched-out form, and he craned his neck to give me a grin.

"It is! I want to cuddle with all three of you," he said decisively, and I shook my head. There was no way I was convincing him to take up a more comfortable position.

Woof. The single bark was the only warning we got before Candy leaped onto the bed and continued to trample all over us as she tried to find a good cuddle spot near Dakota. Moon followed after her and went right for my chest, curling up in a ball and settling in before Candy had even gotten her footing.

"I was wondering where they went," I murmured as I ran my fingers over Moon's tiny head.

"I used my magic to keep them from... interrupting us," Nico said, and I turned to raise a brow at him. I couldn't believe he'd thought of that. I'd practically forgotten they existed the moment Dakota and I kissed.

Nico

We cuddled comfortably for quite a while, and even Ryk was quiet during that time. Did that mean the way to quiet Ryk was through sex and cuddles? I'd need to remember that tidbit for days when he was being especially troublesome.

It was close to lunch time, and I decided I'd wait another ten minutes before making something. Maybe some simple but filling sandwiches would be good?

"Ryk, Star, can I see your true forms?" Dakota asked, breaking the silence, and I glanced over at him. His blue eyes were alight with curiosity, and I pushed the loose strands of his hair back so I could see them better.

"I can show you mine, but Star..." Ryk trailed off, and I glanced over to realize Star had fallen asleep. Why I was surprised at that, I didn't know.

"What is it?" Dakota asked when Ryk didn't continue, and I jumped in before Ryk could explain. Ryk had a tendency of not thinking before he spoke, and just in case Star wasn't completely asleep, I didn't want there to be any miscommunication or hurt feelings.

"Star is one of the oldest demons still in existence. His true form is over eight feet tall and bulky. We'd have to leave the city and go somewhere deserted," I explained. "Also..." I trailed off, unable to explain Star's issues with his true form. As someone who adored comfort, Star's true form was extremely uncomfortable for him, not just mentally but physically too. He'd explained his issue with it to me once, and it'd stuck with me. I couldn't imagine what it felt like to him, but I was glad he got to have a second form he felt more comfortable in.

"Star isn't a big fan of his true form, though I don't get why. I think he looks handsome in both," Ryk cut in with a shrug. "You'll need to convince him. But I can show you mine," he offered, then jumped out of bed before Dakota could say anything.

"I'd love to see it," Dakota said, sitting up eagerly.

"Be careful," I warned Ryk, and he shot me a wink before exhaling softly and letting his magic do the work.

In a moment, he transformed from a red-haired, blue-eyed 5'8" human to a seven-foot-tall, extremely thin demon with pale white skin dotted with coin-sized brown spots, long and curled horns, big, leathery white wings, and sharp talons that I knew for a fact could rip someone to shreds. His blue eyes were almost translucent now, and other than the brown spots, he looked completely devoid of color.

"Wow," Dakota murmured, and I glanced over at him. What did a human think of Ryk's appearance?

Dakota was leaning forward where he sat, his hand hovering in midair as if itching to touch Ryk.

"You can touch," Ryk said, as if sensing his intent, and Dakota jumped out of bed. He looked almost tiny compared to Ryk, and I wondered if that was how small I looked when I stood beside him and Star.

Raising a hand, Dakota placed it flat on Ryk's chest, flexing his fingers. "You...you don't have a heartbeat," Dakota said, and Ryk smiled. Of course, in this form, his usual wide smile looked downright scary with all the sharp teeth, but Dakota didn't even jump. He truly wasn't afraid, was he?

"Yeah. We're technically dead, remember? The heartbeat in our human form is just an illusion," I explained. "We can have a heartbeat if we want. Or rather, make it seem like we have one."

"Oh!" Dakota exclaimed, and I assumed Ryk had demonstrated what I'd just said. The heartbeat illusion existed because we weren't allowed to reveal our undead status to the supes who summoned us, but we didn't have to lie to Dakota, thankfully.

"Can I touch your wing?" Dakota asked, hopping on his toes like a kid.

"Yeah," Ryk answered quietly. Dakota didn't know this, but Ryk's wings were very, very sensitive. Which became clear when just a brush of Dakota's fingers sent Ryk's wings into a frenzy. They stretched out wide, knocking into the cabinet the TV sat on. I barely got my magic to stop the TV from toppling over in time, but the racket was loud enough to wake Candy, Star, and Moon.
