Chapter 4

Luna

I grab my phone off the nightstand and see that it’s five. I’ve been sleeping since I came up to my room. Honestly, I was thankful for the exhaustion I felt. I didn’t have a chance to fully freak out about the fact that my stepdad’s brother was my one-night stand and the father of my daughter.

What a nightmare. I’m not sure what to do, but we need to talk. Honestly, I don’t even know if I want him involved. From what my mom’s told me, he’s a bit of a playboy and is constantly traveling for his work.

There is a good chance he won’t want to be involved anyway. Ugh… I need to stop being a negative Nancy, but these hormones are crazy. Little flutters in my stomach make me smile wide. Placing my hand on my little baby bump I feel the teeny tiny thump.

This is one of the best things about my pregnancy. I know I may change my tune toward the end, when she runs out of room, but for now I’ll savor every moment.

The day I found out I was pregnant, I’d been in shock at first, but then I was filled with joy — even knowing that I was probably going to do it alone, I was ready to do this. Mom and Pete took it surprisingly well, and I was honest about what happened and that I didn’t know the father.

Of course, I was embarrassed at first, but they didn’t care about that. They just wanted me and the baby healthy.

I was about twelve weeks when I started bleeding heavily. My OB sent me to the ER and by then I’d soaked through my stretch pants, and I was sure I was losing the baby. Thankfully, when they did an ultrasound, they found the baby had a strong heartbeat.

There was no explanation for the bleeding, but it had freaked me out and it had freaked Mom when I told her.

They decided they wanted me close in case something happened. Of course, I’m sure they just want access to the baby whenever they want.

Holly was upset when I broke the news to her, but she understood. Plus, she knows she’s always welcome here whenever she wants. You never know, I could always move back to Chicago after I have the baby.

Crawling out of bed I head into my bathroom. After using the toilet and washing my hands, I brush my teeth and wash my face. Once I’m all moisturized, I head back into my room and grab a maxi dress that’s pale pink and lavender squiggles. Its tank top style with a built-in bra.

It shows off my new figure, which still isn’t anything to brag about. I’ve always been on the thin side, but hopefully whatever curves I get from the baby, I’ll get to keep.

Back in the bathroom and after I’m dressed. I brush out my hair and quickly braid it. At my door I pause before opening it. Am I ready to face Sebastian? What if he wants to take the baby? Oh my god, these thoughts are crazy.

I honestly thought I was never going to see him again and had resigned myself to being a single mother. Now, now everything changes, and I’m scared—maybe not scared, but nervous.

Ugh, we’re two mature adults. We’ll talk and come up with a plan, or heck, maybe he doesn’t want to be a dad, and that’s okay too.

I head downstairs and find Pete and my mom outside, standing at the grill. She’s got her arms wrapped around his waist and they’re smiling as they talk to each other. I love the way he loves my mom. Its what she deserves after my dad walked away, leaving her to raise me alone.

“Hey.” A deep voice says from behind me.

I jump and spin around, clutching my chest as my heart races. “Holy shit, you scared me.”

“Sorry. You seemed lost in thought.” His voice is deep and smooth, like the finest whiskey. Goosebumps pop up all over my body as I remember all the dirty words he whispered in my ear, the second time we had sex that night. “You look beautiful.”

“T-Thanks.”

Nicky comes running into the house, his feet are wet, and he slips and slides across the floor, slamming into me and knocking me backwards. Thankfully Sebastien comes up behind me, stopping me from hitting the floor.

“Woah, bud. Be careful around your sister, okay?” He says as he lets go of me.

Nicky looks up at me. “Sorry, Luna.” He kisses my belly and makes me smile.

“That’s okay buddy, we just have to be careful of my stomach.” I get him some paper towels and he quickly cleans the floor. We follow him outside once he finishes.

“Hey sweetheart. My baby girl is gorgeous and this little girl,” she places a hand on my belly, “is going to be just as gorgeous.”

“You’re having a girl?” Sebastian says from beside me.

I look at Mom and then at Sebastian. “I-uh, yes. I am.” I rub my belly and smile.

Mom wraps her arms around me, hugging me tight. I kiss her cheek. She lets me go and starts talking to Sebastian. Stepping up to Pete, I wrap my arms around his waist. “What’s cookin’?”
