I park and before I can climb out, he grabs my wrist. “I-I. Fuck, I don’t even know what to say right now.” Sebastian turns to face me, and I do the same. “I just want to make sure, one hundred percent, that this baby is mine, is it?”

“Yes, she’s yours. I’m not a slut, and I’ve never gone home with someone I don’t know. I’m prepared and I was prepared, to do this alone. Things are complicated because your brother is my step-dad, whom I love very much. If you don’t want any part of this or her we don’t ever have to tell them the truth.” I say in all one breath.

Sebastian gives me an amused smile, before chuckling softly. “Complicated is an understatement. To be honest, I’m freaking the fuck out. I don’t want kids, or at least I never thought about having them. Can we spend some time together while I’m here? Let’s get to know each other.”

Chapter 5

Sebastian

The sun is starting to set, and it casts an orange glow over us as I wait for Luna to answer me. This woman is a stranger to me, but there is just something about her. Fuck, I don’t or didn’t want kids, I’ve never wanted them, but now, now I don’t know.

I look down at her little bump. I kind of want to touch it. Is it hard or soft? Will I feel a closeness to the baby? “Can I touch it?”

She nods and I slowly inch my hand closer to it. I’m scared, of what, I don’t know.

Luna laughs softly and grabs my hand. “It’s not fragile.” She places my hand right on her belly and I’m immediately in awe. It’s soft but firm and I watch my hand as it rubs little circles over it.

I freeze, did I just feel a little thump? It happens again and I look at Luna. “Did I really just feel that?”

Her lips tip up into a smile that is soft. “You did. This is the time of day that she really starts to move.”

“What does it feel like for you?” I reluctantly move my hand.

Luna grins. “Like teeny tiny wiggles. I’ll enjoy them now because the bigger she gets she’ll be able to kick harder and hit more stuff inside me.” She looks past me. “Um…Pete’s standing on the porch. We should probably head inside.”

We climb out and I grab the groceries for her, following behind her to the door.

My brother smiles at Luna, and she kisses his cheek before disappearing inside. His smile falls when he looks at me. “What was that?”

“Nothing, brother. We were just talking about her baby, and we were just finishing our conversation.” I’m half expecting him to punch me, instead he nods.

“It’s gonna be great having a baby around here again.” Pete places his hand on my shoulder. “Let’s go sit by the pool and have a drink.”

Inside he pours each of us some tequila. He leaves mine neat and adds a little lime juice to his. I follow him outside and we sit on a couple of chairs next to the pool.

“Tell me about the life of a famous photog.” Pete says before taking a sip. “Breaking hearts all across the world?”

I laugh, because he’s not wrong. I’ve earned the title of playboy. It is the way I’ve always liked it, no muss, no fuss. What can I say? I’ve always loved beautiful women and sex. “It is amazing, brother. Sometimes I want to pinch myself because I can’t believe how amazing my life is.”

“Don’t you ever want to find someone to spend your life with, to go on adventures with? I can’t imagine my life without Sara, or the kids and I was almost thirty-five when I found her.” My brother was a wild man and completely anti-marriage before her.

Our parents were toxic and made each other miserable until Mom finally left, and Dad took off when Pete was twenty-one and I was fourteen. My brother instantly became my guardian when our mom refused to take me, with no complaints. We were both scarred by our parents, but I’m happy my brother was able to beat whatever kept him avoiding relationships. for thirty-four years.

“I’ve been having too much fun playing the field, brother.”

Pete tips back his glass swallowing the rest of his tequila down. “I was only a few years older than you when it happened for me. This could be your time.”

I slam down the rest of my drink. “Ha. You’re funny.” Standing up I turn to Pete, “I’m exhausted and heading to bed.

He stands up and pulls me into a bear hug. “I’ve said it before but I’m glad you’re here.”

“Me too, brother.” I step into the house and head downstairs and freeze because the TV is on, and Luna is lying on the sofa watching a movie. “Hey.”

She lifts her head. “Hey, I hope this won’t bother you. I can’t sleep.”

“Not at all. Knock yourself out.” I disappear into the spare bedroom. After shutting the door, I strip out of my clothes and in my bathroom, I take a quick shower.

Once I’m done, I brush my teeth, and then grab some cotton shorts, sliding them on. I lie down on the bed, on top of the covers, and listen to the faint hum of the TV. I need to stay right where I’m at, I know that, but instead I do the opposite and climb out of bed.
