I sink back into my lounge chair and look over at my mom to make sure she didn’t catch my staring. Luckily, her eyes are closed and she’s facing the other direction. Nicky is asleep in the hammock in the shade behind us.

Today has been fun day, and only slightly uncomfortable. Sebastian has barely spoke to me, but I enjoyed watching him and Pete play with Nicky in the pool. My little brother’s joyous laughter made Mom and I smile the whole time we watched them.

The kid is a fish and I swear he’s been able to swim since he was born. I’m hoping my daughter loves the water too.

“Lets go inside for a minute.” Mom says and stands up. “Pete, we’ll be right back. Keep an eye on Nicky.” She reaches out and helps me stand.

“Sure thing, babe. Everything okay?” He looks between the two of us from his spot in the pool

She wraps her arm around my waist. “Yes, honey. We’re just going inside to make some lemonade. We’ll be right back. “

Inside I sit at the counter and feel the baby do a little wiggle. I put my hand on my stomach and smile.

“Is my granddaughter moving.” I nod, as she places her hand on my stomach. Of course, the minute she does, the baby stops moving. “She’s a stinker all ready.”

I watch as she quickly makes lemonade, with fresh lemons of course, but it’s delicious. The baby loves it because she gives another little wiggle when I take a drink of the glass, she hands me.

“Does it taste okay?” Mom asks as she leans against the counter. I take a second to appreciate how beautiful my mom is. She wears her caramel brown hair in a shoulder-length bob. Her skin is flawless, not a wrinkle in sight. Mom’s got eyes that look more amber than brown. She’s still got a great body, but that’s because she’s addicted to yoga.

Mom looks so much younger than her forty-one years. People always think that we’re sisters not mother/daughter. Then again, she had me when she was only eighteen. Mom graduated high school and walked the stage when she was eight months pregnant.

Right before she met Pete she graduated from community college, with a degree in small business management. Now she handles the financials of his business. Pete owns his own state of the art security company.

“Hello? Earth to Luna.” Mom waves her hand in front of my face.

I laugh, shaking my head. “Sorry, I spaced out there for a second. It’s really good.”

Mom looks outside and then turns back to me. “What do you think of Sebastian?”

Oh god, what do I say. What if the moment my stupid mouth opens, I give it away that he’s the baby’s father? No, what am I thinking? That’s impossible. “Um… he seems nice. I haven’t talked to him much. He looks a lot like Pete.”

“He does, right? He’s very good looking, but I’m told he’s a womanizer. Never with the same girl more than once. Pete says his brother is a huge commitmentphobe.”

Wonderful, that’s the father of my child—no, he’s nobody to her unless he wants to be. Although, this isn’t new information. I did Google him last night and every picture of him, he’s always surrounded by different models and actresses. All of them beautiful.

“I guess he’s okay.” I tell her.

Mom comes closer, whispering quietly. “I saw you?”

My heart beats rapidly in my chest. “S-Saw me what?” I have no clue what she’s going to say.

“Last night I got up and while I was drinking a glass of water, I heard the TV downstairs. I went down there and found you and Sebastian cuddling while you were watching a movie.” She doesn’t look upset, but she’s looking at me closely.

“Mom, I honestly don’t even remember falling asleep, let alone curling up with him.”

She nods. “Okay.”

“It seriously meant nothing. Who wants someone six months pregnant anyway?” I signal to my little belly.

“You are beautiful and now, even more so. There’s this glow that you have, anyone can see it.” Mom kisses my cheek. “Now let’s go back outside.”

I grab my glass and follow her out.

Tired of tossing and turning, I climb out of bed and throw my bikini on. I grab a towel and head downstairs. After disarming the alarm on the doors to the backyard, I slide the door open, and step outside.

It’s still warm out and I toss my towel onto a lounge chair. I get in the pool and begin to swim laps, trying to work myself into exhaustion. My OB says I can take Tylenol PM, but I’d rather not take anything if I don’t have to.

I’m not sure how many laps I swim, but once I’m done, I walk toward the stairs. As I reach them, I freeze. Sebastian is sitting on the top of the steps, watching me.
