I crave him. I ache to see where this night will take us.

To find out who we could be together.

And more importantly, I trust that he wants this too. I felt it in his touch when we were together earlier, and it was in his voice as he pleaded with me to give him a shot.

It was so raw and genuine.

“Now, go into the other bedroom and work it out.” Tarrah shoves us in the opposite direction. “I have to get some sleep if I have any hopes of containing this hangover.”

I smile, instantly relieved to have my friend’s blessing. She could’ve ended things between Elijah and me right then and there, but she gave me hope and reassurance—something she’s been doing ever since we met.

She always gives me a push when I need it the most.

Smiling wider, I follow Elijah into the room he’s been occupying, reveling in the warm hand he places on my lower back to guide me toward the bed.

“I meant what I said,” he whispers, and the air crackles around us like lightning during a storm. “I know I don’t deserve you, but I’d like to try and earn my place by your side—and in your bed.”

The mischievous glimmer in his eye is one of dirty promises, and a hot sensation courses through me.

He runs his nose along my jawline, his breath causing goose bumps to erupt on my arms. “You, Pumpkin, help me soar, but you ground me too. I’ve never had that, and I want more of it.”

“You scare me,” I say, the confession rushed and hoarse.

A chuckle from deep in his chest vibrates between us. “Why?”

“You’re… intimidating and…” My voice catches. Our close proximity is too intoxicating for me to think straight.

“Broody?” he finishes, and an air of amusement is laced in the single word.

I think I nod. I definitely lick my lips.

“What’s so wrong with a little fear? It’s what drives us to live every day to the fullest.” He swipes my hair aside and nips at my ear.

I’m instantly wet and aroused. Elijah has this effect on me—one that is terrifying but also delicious and addictive.

I feel a strong pull toward him, and I refuse to let fear stop me.

“Let’s do this,” I breathe into his mouth and open mine to invite him in.

“What is this exactly? Just sex or…” He flicks his molten gaze to mine, and I glimpse the hint of rare vulnerability there.

It makes me fall for him even harder.

I shake my head slowly and weave my fingers together around the back of his neck, then barely brush my lips against his.

“Does that mean you’ll finally refer to me as something other than just your roommate?” he asks.

I bite my lip to suppress my grin. “Just come here.”

He growls and closes the distance between us, tilting my head back.

Between feverish kisses, he makes promises to teach me a thing or two to inspire my romance books.

“I’ll be happy to read the first draft and roleplay too. Anything I can do to help.” He smirks against my mouth as he rolls on top of me.

“I’ll keep that in mind, rock star.”

I gasp as he slips his hand up my skirt and finds I’m still exposed since my panties are wadded up in my purse. He moves his thumb straight to my clit and rubs pressured circles on my sensitive flesh.
