Arya’s family never forgave her for leaving the Midwest and coming to New York. They don’t know she’s a stripper, but they don’t like that she’s here regardless. Her sister flies in once and a while and they have lunch filled with fake smiles and conversation. It sucks, but she’s going after a dream she wouldn’t have found out there and I give her a ton of credit for it.

“Oh, damn sorry,” I say, sipping my coffee.

“Whatever, I have more important things to talk about,” she says, raising an eyebrow.

I go sit on the couch and pull my legs up, holding my coffee between my hands. “Okay, what’s up?”

She walks over and sits next to me smiling like a fool. “Why did I see Corbin Stoll walk you home last night?”

I nearly choke on my coffee, and she laughs shaking her head.

“Did you finally fuck the asshole?”

I shake my head a little too vigorously. “No, hell no. He didn’t walk me home, he followed me home. He was pissed I had a successful meeting with Lucas and suddenly his anger turned him almost human, and he didn’t want me walking home alone. We didn’t talk or even walk together. I got home and he left.”

“Why the sudden show of humanity?” she asks.

I shrug, taking another sip of coffee. “Hell if I know. Maybe someone told him what a prick he is or maybe he thought Lucas was still around and wanted to seem like a decent human.”

She laughs and leans back. “That makes sense but damn I was hoping for a good story.”

“There’s never a good story when Corbin is involved,” I say.

“Alright, I have a little time. Tell me how it went last night.”

Now that gets me excited. I tell her everything from his reaction to my design to the talk of where he’d like his very first tattoo. Just thinking back on the night makes it impossible to keep the smile off my face.

That is until I think of Corbin.

Last night was the first time I ever saw something besides rage in his eyes. He was turned on and fuck it was hot. The closer he got to me, the more I could feel it radiating off of him. I know damn well he could tell I was turned on and even though he tried to hide it, I know he was too.

For some reason, I feel like that’s why he felt the need to walk me home and it pisses me off as much as it still makes my panties wet.

Shaking those ridiculous thoughts out of my head, I focus back on the excitement of the night.

“So, I’m feeling pretty damn good about this. I don’t want to jinx it but you should have seen him, Arya. He loved what I showed him.”

She leans over and pulls me into a tight hug. “He’d be a damn fool not to choose you. That design is epic.” She groans and stands up. “I guess I need to get this over with. I have work after, so I probably won’t see you until tomorrow.”

“Alright, try to have fun and good luck at work. Hope it’s a busy night for you,” I say, lifting my coffee.

I sit for a while and stare at my design. A beautiful, colorful falcon with the bright sun behind him. It’s one of the best designs I’ve come up with. My colors are what is going to give me the edge here. Corbin won’t use any and, in this case, it’s going to hurt him.

I can’t wait for him to eat his fucking words.

“Almost done, William, just hold still,” I say.

This guy is a pain in the ass. He won’t hold still and this tattoo is taking longer because of it. It’s a skull with a rose and after the outline he had to take a half hour break. It’s killing me but I’m trying not to lose my patience with him. I understand everyone has a different pain tolerance.

“Damn, how much longer?” he groans, holding tightly to the arm of the chair.

“Just a little more red in the rose and you’re done. Just take a few deep breaths,” I instruct.

When I get the final bit of color on, I think I’m just as relieved as him. I wipe away the ink and he hisses again.

“You did great. Go check it out and see what you think,” I say, getting the ointment ready.

When he gets in front of the mirror he finally smiles. “Shit, that’s amazing. Worth that pain.”
