Chapter 15

Xan

LEAVE THE PAST BEHIND YOU

“Okay, Kollyns. Let’s get this mess cleaned up.”

I’ve already ordered takeout because after this disaster I’m not cooking anything else. It certainly didn’t go like we planned but we can still salvage the evening. And maybe I can still get in a lesson with this incredible woman. She needs to step out of her comfort zone. I think dessert would have helped. And maybe we should have it sooner rather than later.

We set to cleaning up the cooking experiment gone wrong. The chicken was trashed, along with the blackened mac and cheese and colorless green beans. It was a nice effort though and I’m proud of her for trying. The trouble-making cat managed to stay put wherever he decided to hide. After all was said and done, the only thing not burned, trashed or otherwise inedible was a can of whipped cream.

I look at the beautiful woman in front of me and my thoughts begin to wander . . . and a lesson begins to formulate.

“KJ, I want us to play a game.” She looks at me with a questioning expression but a curious smile covers her face. “Come here,” I tell her and beckon her to me with a come-hither motion of my index finger.

She moves closer and gazes at me with a shy smile. I shake the can and she looks at it and then back to me and then to the can. “Um, Xan. What’s with the whipped cream?” I smile an evil smirk at her, lift the can . . . and spray a line of the sweet cream on her neck. I lean in slowly and lick the cream away. I taste the sweetness of the whipped cream and something that is so KJ. She tastes sinful and decadent, like under all the stubborn stuffiness is a woman begging to be set free. I hear a gasp and I know I have surprised her with my forwardness, then a low moan as I move up to the sensitive spot behind her ear.

“The game we’re playing? Let’s call it Find Kollyns’s Sensitive Spot,” I whisper in her ear. I pull back and look into eyes beginning to simmer. I like what I see and I want to find out if I can push her a little further.

I spray a line along her collarbone into the divot where her clavicles meet. Her chest is heaving and goose bumps cover her arms. As my lips and tongue move down her delicate bones, she shudders. I chuckle darkly. This moment isn’t supposed to be for me. It’s supposed to be a moment where she’s open and honest. I can’t help how much seeing her this way turns me on. “Are you sensitive . . . right here? Or here?”

“Xan . . . ohhh,” she groans. She grabs my arm and I suck harder. “Oh my god. More.”

I want to see her. All of her. It’s wrong to want to take this further. I’m her teacher, not her boyfriend. But the longer we’ve been together in this apartment, the more she’s gotten under my skin. I want inside her but she’s not ready. Just don’t tell my cock that. He doesn’t believe it. My sweats are very uncomfortable and I’m harder than I’ve been in a long time.

I step back and see flushed cheeks and sparkling eyes.

Buzz. Ring. Buzz. Ring.

Well fuck. What a great time for dinner to arrive. I’m sure Graham already let them up because I ordered from one of my regular places, so he’s just ringing me to let me know that someone will be here momentarily.

Ding. Dong.

I grab my phone on the way to the door. “Thanks, Graham. They’re already here.”

Stopping in front of the door, I glance back at Kollyns and wait until she is sitting on the couch before I open the door. Garlic and curry permeate the hall and waft in. My nose twitches from the amazing aroma and I take the bag from the young guy. “Thanks, Tall,” I say to him.

“You’re welcome, Small,” he responds.

Shutting the door behind him, I see Kollyns in the kitchen pulling silverware out of the drawer and fixing us each a glass of water.

“Why did you call him Tall?” she asks me.

I unpack the containers of curry and rice before answering her. “His name is James Tallman. But he’s anything except tall. I call him Tall, and he calls me Small. It’s our thing.”

A big smile comes over her face, and I want to continue what we were doing before dinner arrived, but the moment is lost. Maybe we can try again later.

Chapter 16

Kollyns

CONFIDENCE IS KEY

Teach Kollyns How to Date Day 10

I haven’t been to The Golden Girl since the first night Henley brought me here to meet Xan. I didn’t pay much attention to anything that was going on around me really. Now I take in the dark decor, the stunning light fixtures and the gold accents that make the place feel classier than just a regular bar.

“So, what’s the plan for the night?” I ask Xan, while he orders a couple drinks for us.
