“Yeah. I didn’t want to come. Rae made me,” I bite out, hiding my…anger? Behind my red Solo cup, I pull in a deep gulp.

“Is that right?” His eyes roam over my face. What he’s looking for, I have no clue.

“Why don’t you go back to your little girlfriend before her head explodes?” Over his shoulder, I see Nora, arms crossed, causing her breasts to nearly tumble out of the low-cut top, staring daggers at us. I can almost feel her glare.

“She’s not my girlfriend, and I don’t care if her head explodes.”

I shrug, ignoring the little zip of petty happiness his words give me, and take another sip.

“You drinking?” Levi asks casually.

I shrug again. “Maybe.”

“Should you be?” He watches me warily as if he’s waiting for a fight.

Defiantly, my eyes locked on his. I raise my cup, never breaking eye contact, even over the rim, and drink deeply until I’ve emptied it. Smacking my lips in exaggeration, I go a step further and let out an “aaaahhhh” as if it was the most refreshing, thirst-quenching drink I’ve ever had. Clearly, my petty is not just for Nora.

“That’s some flex. You mad at me for something?” he asks, crossing his arms over his barreled chest. Of their own free will, my eyes dart over at Nora to where she still stands glaring. Levi glances behind him, following my gaze. “Oooh, you’re jealous. I get it now. Well, Briggsy, just say the word, and I’m yours.” His smile wide, dimples on full display. He really is sexy. A little dazed and a lot buzzed, it takes my fuzzy brain a bit longer to remember that I don’t like him.

“In your dreams, Levi.” I scoff.

“Oh, you have no idea,” he says, his voice teasing.

Thankfully, I don’t have time to figure out what he means by that because my cousin chooses that moment to appear at my side with another drink in hand. As if summoned, knowing I needed her to save me. I’m just not sure who she is saving me from. Levi or myself.

Chapter 13

Levi

I can’t help but admire the sway of Saffie’s ass as she’s pulled through the crowd by Raegan. It had only taken me a moment to realize that she was standing and watching Nora and me. Her laser-beam glare was a beacon drawing my eyes to hers. I never understood people saying shit like “I felt it before I saw it.” I mean, not off the ice. But I totally did. I felt Saffie and her gaze on me before I saw her standing there. How long had she been there? Was she able to hear anything that Nora and I were saying? If she did, she would have heard things that would have no doubt made her blush. Nora had been telling me all the things that she wanted to do to me and how much she’s missed me the last couple of weeks. I’ve done my best to avoid her without making it seem like I was avoiding her. Kind of hard to do at a party in my own house, though. Especially since any other time, we would’ve already been up in my room fucking.

The crowd swallowed them up, making it impossible for me to see where they’d gone. Clearly, Saffie has been drinking. I’ll have to find her later to make sure she’s okay. We always made sure that everyone at Hockey House feels safe no matter how much or how little they’ve had to drink. Bedroom doors stayed locked unless we were the ones using them, people checking the bathrooms, shit like that. Knowing that Saffie was in the house and drinking had my over-protectiveness kicking into high gear. Not the kind that my sisters cause either because I don’t feel even a little brotherly toward her. Before I can think any more about how unbrotherly I feel about Saffron Briggs, Nora is beside me, looking mad as hell.

“Are we going upstairs or are you going to chase after Raegan’s cousin?” she snips.

I know that the decision I’m about to make will have consequences I probably won’t like later on, but it’s not as if Nora is the only no-strings chick on campus. Although she seems pretty fucking attached lately. Not appreciating her tone, I just shrug. “I don’t chase after anyone, Nora. You should know that better than anyone,” I tell her before walking away without a backward glance to go find Saffie. Totally okay with the fact that I have time to make sure she stays out of trouble now that I’ve blown Nora off.

It doesn’t take me long to find the group of them all huddled on my couch with their heads together, laughing and smiling, unaware of the guys hovering just behind them hoping to get some action. Making eye contact with one of them, I narrow my gaze and give a shake of my head. Not gonna happen. My face set like granite, I stare until they pick up what I’m throwing down and walk away. Satisfied, I turn my focus to Saffron. It doesn’t take me but a second to notice her smile doesn’t quite reach her eyes, and a pretty pink flush covers her cheeks. I make my way over to them and perch on the arm next to Millie, tugging her hair.

“Hey, ladies.” I greet them all, but my eyes never leave Saffie. This close I can see that hers have that fuzzy glazed-over look you get when you’re hella lit, and she is. Clearly. How much has she had to drink?

“Hey, Levi,” my sister greets unenthusiastically.

“Saw the game the other night. Looking good, Sexy,” Lakyn says, drawing my attention her way.

“You trying to get me naked, Lakyn?” I tease.

“Is it working?” she volleys, causing my sister to stick her finger in her mouth and make gagging noises.

“Not with so many people around. Don’t want to make anyone jealous, right, Briggsy?” I wink at Lakyn and turn my attention back to Saffie, who is scowling into her cup.

“Yeah, Whore-a would not be happy about that,” she says before taking a big swig of her drink.

Did she just say “whore A?” A shocked laugh slips out. “Did you—did you just say…Whore-a?” I glance at the faces of the girls sitting around the couch. Some averting their gazes, others with eyes as wide as hockey pucks. Holy shit, that is what she said.

“Oh my god, Levi, she said Nora. Don’t be stupid,” Millie says, pushing at my leg.

“You bunch of prudes. What about girl power and never slut shaming your fellow sisters?” I tsk. It’s probably not the worst thing Nora’s been called. She’s literally the mean girl on campus.
