“Nah, you’re doing a stellar job all on your own,” he says cooly. Enjoying this way too much.

Pissed at him and myself for letting him get to me, I spin. “You know, you could at least tell me what happened last night. Did we?” I flap a hand between us, not finishing the question, hands planted on my hips as I glared at him, pretending my heart wasn’t thundering against my rib cage.

“Did we what?” Levi locks his fingers behind his head and settles deeper into the bed and headboard. The movement causes his muscled chest to ripple, the gold charm on his chain sliding to the side, his biceps bulging. Why does he have to look like…that? I don’t even want to know what I look like. I wasn’t winning any beauty contests when I got here, and that was before I drank myself stupid and slept it off in Levi’s bed. Lovely. I fight the urge to lift a hand to check my hair. What was the question again? Oh right.

“You know what, Levi. Don’t be a dick.”

“Did we sleep? We did. You a little better than I did since somebody, I’m not naming names, was over on my side of the bed the whole night.” He looks so pleased with himself over that little tidbit. “Wiggling her ass around like she does when she’s up to bat.”

“I do not wiggle my ass.” The words are pushed past clenched teeth and stiff lips.

“Oh, you wiggle.” Levi waggles his eyebrows at me, his lip pulled between his teeth.

I’m not willing to argue whether I do or don’t because I need to steer him back on track. “Did we do anything else?” I prod. He’s going to make me say it. I know he is.

“We didn’t get a chance to talk really if that’s what you’re asking.” The ass.

“Oh, for the love…fine! You win. Did we have sex last night?” My teeth are clenched so tight I think they might shatter as I stare him down, pretending like my insides aren’t all wishy-washy right now.

Levi rises from the bed like he doesn’t have a single care in the world and like I’m not standing there waiting for an answer to a very important question. When he still doesn’t answer, I fume.

“I have a boyfriend, for shit’s sake. This is not funny.” It’s not funny, but not because of Landon. I’m still so pissed at him. My mind is fuzzy. I might even be a little drunk still, but I vaguely remember calling him again and some chick answering, “Landon’s phone, he’s not available right now.” That’s when things get reeeaaalllly fuzzy. I started drinking even heavier than I had been. Totally unlike me and probably why I can’t remember shit after that. And why I feel like I got hit by a truck.

He turns to face me, a bored expression on his face. The scar on his lip a little less noticeable than usual under the scruff of facial hair he’s sporting. “Always the boyfriend with you, Briggsy. Is it me you’re trying to remind or yourself?”

My eyes narrow. “I’m not reminding anyone, just stating a fact.”

“You state it a lot.” When he’s being like this, it makes it easier for me to dislike him and ignore the way he had my body tingling just a few minutes ago. And he still hasn’t answered the question.

“Just answer the damn question, Levi.”

“What do you think?” His legs are planted wide, his arms folded across his chest, and his dirty-blond hair flopping over one eye, looking like he didn’t have a single care in the world. I hate him.

“I don’t know what to think! You’re…you.” I flick my hand in his direction.

“I am…me. And being that I am, I can promise you two things. One: I’m all about consent. No ass is worth going to prison for or losing my ride to the show. Even yours. And two: if we had fucked, you’d know. There wouldn’t be a question in your mind. You’d feel me still in places you didn’t even know existed. You wouldn’t have to be reminded of anything or even have to ask.” His voice is sure as if he’s speaking from experience. Which he probably is.

My mouth opens and closes like a fish, my eyes wide and unblinking, watching him watch me, the smugness of his promise oozing off him. I guess that answers that. Thankfully, someone knocks on the door, saving me from having to come up with something to say after his little speech. Not wanting anyone to find me in here, though I’m sure they all already know I spent the night, I grab my phone off the nightstand and dart into the bathroom, slamming the door behind me. With my breathing erratic and my heart racing, I go to the sink and try to forget what Levi just said to me and how it had me hotter than I’d ever admit. I groan at my reflection in the mirror. “Wonderful. He’s out there looking like he just walked off the cover of some hot guy sports magazine, and I look like I was mauled by a damn bear,” I whine, totally aware that I’m talking to myself. Just wanting to get the hell out of here, I do my best to wash off the smudged eyeliner and fix my knotted bedhead. My hands still when I hear voices. Tiptoeing to the door, I press an ear against the cool wood to listen.

“How was practice?”

“Brutal. Where’s my cousin?” I fumble with the lock at the sound of Rae’s voice.

“Hiding in the bathroom,” Levi responds.

He’s such an ass. “I am not hiding,” I shout as I storm into the room, finally free of the bathroom and its tricky door. Eyes on Rae, I keep my focus there instead of on the half-dressed jock who just had me feeling as if I had played seven innings in the hot sun.

“Saffie! You look…good,” my cousin says, trying to lie straight to my face. “How do you feel?”

“I feel fine. Can we go?” The clip in my tone isn’t really for her. Well, it is because she is the one who left me here with him, but it’s my fault I drank so much and gave her no other choice.

“S-Sure,” she stammers, looking worried.

“Don’t be hard on Rae, Briggsy. It’s not her fault we didn’t hook up. Maybe next time, don’t try to seduce me when you’re drunk. The outcome will be better for both of us.” My head whips in his direction, causing my vision to go a little spotty from the pain.

“In. Your. Dreams.” Twice in one week, I’ve uttered those words to him. I don’t think I’ve ever said them before a day in my fucking life.

“You’re the one with the ass wiggle and soft kisses, so probably in yours.” He winks as he walks past us into the bathroom, dropping his gray sweats at the open door and kicking them away. Rae yelps behind me at the sight of his bare ass, grabbing my wrist and dragging me out of the bedroom before we see even more of Levi Sexton than she wants to.
