“I agree.”

We dig into the cupcake.

“Will you teach me how to take photos like those?” I ask, looking at the adorable squirrel again.

“When we go on our adventure this weekend, I will.”

“We’re going on an adventure?” I take another bite of the cupcake and swipe the frosting off my lips with my tongue.

“Yes, I’ll pick you up Saturday morning, and we’ll spend the day together.” Seeing the apprehensive look on my face, he asks quietly, “What’s the matter?”

“We work together.” I drop the last bit of cupcake I had in my hand back onto my plate. “As much as I want to be your little professor—not that you want me as yours, I just mean—”

“Violet,” Professor Martin interrupts me sharply, using my name for the first time. He closes the distance between us by leaning over the table. “I understand your concerns, but it’s no one’s business if we spend time together. Or the type of relationship we have.”

I nod.

“When we met, I knew you were someone I wanted to get to know. You’re an intelligent, kind, and beautiful woman, but I wasn’t looking for a relationship where I couldn’t be myself,” he says quietly, covering my hand with his own. “Then I learned you were exactly the kind of woman I was looking for, and I want to explore what’s between us. I want to see if we fit as Daddy and his little professor.”

“I’ve been looking for a Daddy,” I admit quietly, looking up into his determined face. “Someone who’ll let me be myself too.”

“What do you say?” Professor Martin asks in a slightly nervous whisper. “Will you go on an adventure with me this weekend as Daddy and his little professor and see how we do together?”

Chapter 4

Violet

“Good morning.” I beam, opening the door to Etienne, who looks cuddly and warm, wearing a nubby burgundy fleece pullover jacket, a pair of dark well-fitted jeans, and a soft smile.

“Morning.” He presses a kiss on my cheek. “Are you ready to go?”

“Yes.” I nod, stepping back into my apartment to grab my mini purple Beauty and the Beast backpack and my sherpa-lined denim jacket.

“Let me help you,” Etienne says, taking my jacket to help me slip it up my arms. “Are you going to be warm enough?”

“Yes, Daddy,” I whisper, trying out the name for the first time as he buttons the jacket.

Etienne pauses, looks at me, and grins broadly. “I was hoping you’d feel comfortable calling me Daddy today.”

Yesterday, Etienne and I discussed exactly what we are both comfortable with. We agreed on how much say he would have, what we are looking for in a relationship, and what kind of punishments we are comfortable with. It feels amazing to be on the same page as Daddy!

Cupping the back of my head with one hand and wrapping his other arm around my waist, he draws me into his warmth. I grip his jacket as he gently presses his lips to mine. My senses are overloaded by the taste of minty toothpaste, the smell of fresh air and soap, and the strength of his arms around me. I happily get lost in the long, leisurely kiss. It’s more fantastic than every fantasy I’ve had about this man since I learned he was a Daddy—the type of man I’ve been searching for.

I’m not sure what possessed me to call him Daddy so soon, but it felt right. Today is all about seeing if we’re compatible. So I’m going to jump in with both feet.

Etienne won’t tell me where our adventure is taking us today. When he called to say goodnight yesterday, he relented when I mentioned not knowing what to wear and said, “I’ll give you one clue, little professor—we’ll be outside.”

My imagination has run wild with the multitude of outdoor activities you can do in Vermont this time of year: nature trails, apple picking, hay rides, corn mazes, and so on. His clue did help me pick out what to wear. I chose a navy blue long-sleeve tunic top over my favorite pair of leggings—which have tiny unicorns on them—my navy blue Converse sneakers, and my surprisingly warm jean jacket.

Etienne also told me not to have breakfast because he was taking me out. Not that I could’ve eaten anything this morning. I’ve been too excited about spending the day with a Daddy.

When he finally ends the kiss, he walks me out to his rugged-looking SUV. I settle onto the plush leather passenger seat and set my purse on the floor at my feet.

“Daddy will buckle you in,” Etienne says.

“Thank you,” I say as he stretches the seat belt across my body and clicks it into place. I relish the feeling of his body so close to mine.

“So polite.” He smiles, rewarding me with a kiss on my nose before shutting the door and making his way around the front of the vehicle.
