Chapter 13

Gavin

Everything was coming together. With any luck, we’d have the rest of the decorations and booths set up the Friday before the festival and wouldn’t need to come in at the ass crack of dawn on Saturday morning. There were a handful of local vendors who needed to set up on Saturday, but we wouldn’t have to let them in until ten. If I could manage to keep from getting distracted, this would all go off without a hitch. Problem was, I found myself frequently distracted the final days before the event.

Melody’s long, graceful arms stretched above her head as she held the final board on the arbor in place so I could screw it down. Flashes of me pinning her wrists to my bed in much the same position flashed in my mind. Over the last few weeks, I’d managed to keep my head on straight around her. That was until the last few days.

The volunteers had joined Mrs. Smith and me nearly every evening in the gym to get it ready for this weekend. Each night, I worked side by side with Melody to build the few items we needed. I was embarrassed to admit it had taken us two days to build the arbor, but it was finally finished. And just in time since the festival was tomorrow.

“What else do we need?” Melody asked, screwing the lid off a bottle of water.

“I’m not sure,” I replied, glancing around. There wasn’t much left to do.

“The arbor looks a little bare,” Mrs. Smith said, tilting her head to the side and studying the wooden structure. “There’s some garland with fall leaves on one of the shelves in there.” She waved toward the large storage room next to the stage.

“I’ll grab it,” Melody offered, closing her bottle again.

“I’ll pack up these tools then help you decorate it.” She nodded her agreement and disappeared into storage.

“Where’s Melody?” Bryn asked, sidling up next to me once I had all the tools packed away.

“She’s looking for some garland Mrs. Smith sent her after.” I nodded toward the door she’d disappeared through. “But she’s been gone for a while.”

“Well, don’t you think you should go help her?” she asked, giving me a look like I was an idiot. I most likely was.

“Probably,” I said, placing my tool bag on the ground.

Brynlee rolled her eyes and shook her head, mumbling under her breath, “Men.”

I walked into the room where shelves lined the walls. There were totes and boxes from floor to ceiling. Melody stood off to the right, peeking inside a cardboard box labeled “decorations.”

“Need some help?” She jumped at the sound of my voice and turned her frustrated gaze toward me. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to startle you.”

“It’s fine,” she huffed. “I just can’t find the damn garland. I’ve been in here for ten minutes looking inside every one of these boxes.”

I glanced around trying to see if anything stuck out. Among the cardboard boxes and solid-colored totes, there were a few clear ones. I decided to start there since I could see their contents without opening them. I scanned the entire room, my eyes eventually coming back to Melody. Just above her and slightly to her right, on the highest shelf was a clear tote with a wad of something red, orange, and gold.

“There,” I said, pointing above her head. “I think that might be it.” She leaned back to get a better view of the contents.

“I think you might be right.” She reached up, but her fingers barely brushed the sides.

“Here,” I said, coming up behind her. “Let me.” I reached over her and grabbed the tote from the shelf just as she turned to face me. Her chest brushed mine, and she sucked in a breath. I brought the tote down and settled it on my hip. She stared at my throat, refusing to look me in the face. I swallowed hard, realizing our mouths were only inches away. She was so close I could smell her coconut shampoo. I braced my free hand on the shelf behind her and leaned in.

“Gavin,” she said, her breath coming in pants, and finally she lifted her gaze to mine. Her blue eyes burned with desire, her chest rising and falling with each ragged breath she took.

I tossed the tote onto the floor and gripped the side of her face, bringing her lips to mine. She moaned and slid her hands up my chest. I pressed into her, and her back hit the shelves. Tangling my fingers into the hair at the nape of her neck, I licked the seam of her lips. She opened for me, and I wasted no time. My tongue swept inside her mouth, tasting every corner of it.

All was forgotten when she snaked her arms around my neck, pushing her breasts into my chest. I didn’t remember where I was or why I’d come in here. Every thought was consumed by the gorgeous woman in my arms.

I groaned when her hips surged forward, pressing her lower belly into my growing erection. The hand gripping the shelf dropped to her lower back and down to her ass. I squeezed, grinding my hard cock into her.

“What the hell is taking so long? Oh!” I jumped back at the sound of Brynlee’s voice, my eyes popping open and snapping to her. She stood just inside the room, her eyes wide and mouth hanging open.

“Uh, sorry, guys. I didn’t know—” Her voice trailed off, and she peered over her shoulder. “If you want to continue this, might I suggest going somewhere else?” Her brows lifted in a “catch my drift?” expression.

“That won’t be an issue,” Melody said and dropped her eyes to the floor, rushing past me.

“Melody, wait.” I reached for her, but she was too fast. She was gone in a second, leaving me standing there like a fool. Brynlee watched her go before turning to me.
