“I guess his friend Jake’s mom got remarried, and her new husband adopted him.”

“But we’re not married.” Did Eli think we were since we lived with Gavin now? We’d just moved in with him over spring break. I was resistant to the idea when Gavin first brought it up, worried that we were moving too fast, but in the end, it was what I wanted. Besides, it just made sense. Elijah and I were still taking up a room at my grandparents’ inn, and it was about to be peak season. Plus, I stayed with Gavin whenever Eli was with his dad, so I practically lived there part time already.

“Yeah, about that,” Gavin began, and his hands fell away from my feet. I felt him shift under my legs, and my eyes popped open. They widened when I took in the small, black box in his hand. My pulse accelerated, and I sucked in a breath. Is that what I think it is?

I sat up and placed my feet on the wooden planks beneath me. He leaned forward, elbows braced on his knees as he twirled the box between his fingers. “I’ve been carrying this around for two months, waiting for the right time to give it to you. Since our family is growing, it feels like that moment is now.” Our family. My heart squeezed in my chest as tears pricked my eyes. He’d had a ring for two months? He wasn’t asking out of obligation because I was pregnant. He’d been preparing for this for some time.

His gaze lifted to mine, and my galloping pulse doubled at the love shining in his hazel eyes. “I know it must seem fast, like we’re rushing things, but when you find the person you want to spend the rest of your life with, why wait? I want our forever. I want to be the man you wake up next to every morning, the shoulder you cry on, and the person you confide in. I want us to raise our babies in the home we’ve made and fill it with love and laughter.”

Before he could say another word, I dove at him and wrapped my arms around his neck as I settled into his lap. “Yes,” I breathed before pressing my lips to his. Until this moment, I didn’t realize just how badly I wanted this. I didn’t dare let myself dream of happily ever after. But I wanted it. And I wanted it with this beautiful, kind, funny, intelligent man beneath me.

He deepened our kiss as he tangled his hands in my hair. I melted into him, bracing my knees on each side of his hips. I wanted him closer, needed to feel his touch on my skin.

“Take me inside,” I commanded. He stood and instantly met my request. I wrapped my legs around him as he carried me to the bed. He eased me onto the mattress and settled between my legs.

“Do you want this?” he asked, lifting the ring box. I was so surprised and elated that I’d tackled him before he had a chance to put the ring on my finger.

“Oohh, gimme,” I replied, and he chuckled. I reached for it, but he held it just out of my reach.

“I want to hear you say it,” he taunted, flexing his hips. I moaned as his zipper rubbed against my center, the thin cotton of my shorts doing little to dull the delicious friction.

“Say what?” I gasped.

“That you can’t wait to marry me and have my babies.” He smirked, and I giggled, lightly slapping him on the chest.

“Be serious,” I demanded. His expression shifted, and the smirk fell away as he stared into my eyes.

“Say you want to marry me, that you’ll give me a chance to make you the happiest woman in the world.”

“I want to marry you,” I proclaimed, raising up to press a soft kiss to his lips. “And you’ve already made me the happiest woman in the world.” His eyes fell closed briefly as he soaked in my words. When they opened again, they burned with desire.

Without looking away, he opened the box and pulled out the ring. Lifting my left hand, he placed a kiss to my ring finger before sliding on the band. I only had a second to take in the gorgeous diamond ring before he laced his fingers through mine and brought my hand above my head. He held me there as his free hand explored my ultra-sensitive body, peppering sweet kisses over my mouth and down my neck.

When he finally sank into me, it felt like all was finally right in the world. I held onto him tightly as we sealed our promise of forever with more than just a kiss.
