I scrub a hand down my face as I sit with Adam and Jace at the bar.

“More bullshit?” Adam asks.

“Yeah. It's never ending.”

Dinner dispersed about an hour ago, and the men, minus Cap and the man who had Tilly holed up in the corner, arguing, were nursing a few beers.

Blaine is trying to be subtle, but I know her tells. She’s pointed that angry face at me every time I’ve came to visit over the years. Granted I deserved it. So does he.

I finally see her give him a less than affectionate hug, and Bekka drags her to the dance floor. He heads out the front door and before I know it, I’m on my feet.

“Grey?” Adam calls.

I ignore him and stalk out onto the sidewalk. I glance left before I spot him to my right, looking down at his phone. I’ve got a few inches on him so I can see the busty brunette with barely any clothing on he’s texting not two minutes after kissing his fiancé goodbye.

“Hey, Blaine,” I call.

He locks his screen and turns. “What’s up?”

“Can we talk?” I nod toward the side ally.

“Of course.”

I have money, but I don’t flaunt it. I don’t dress like this shit head either. I watch his leather loafers collect snow as he tries to avoid the puddles.

As soon as we’re in the clear, I take a step, pinning him hard against the brick.

“Let’s get one thing straight, you sorry piece of shit,” I grit out. “If I ever catch you talking to her that way again. Making her feel inferior for being different, I’ll break every bone in your fucking body.”

“Are you threatening me?” He tries to free himself.

My forearm crushes his windpipe, and I push harder. “No threat here. Facts.”

His eyes bulge as I press harder, then release him. “Show her some respect and learn to read a damn room.”

He gasps for air, and bends at the waist. I turn, storming back to the bar when I hear is voice. “How does it feel?”

I pause. “Come again?”

He stands, adjusting his collar. “How does it feel to know you’ll never have her? Not like I will.”

His arrogant grin spreads and I take another step back towards him.

“She may wear that ring on her finger.” I brush my chest right up against his. “But make no mistake, bro.” I toss back the sentiment he gave me earlier. I point my finger to the bar. “That woman. That beautiful, intelligent, strong willed woman has always been mine. I don’t give a fuck if she has your last name, lives in your fancy house, or tolerates your bullshit.” I step back, dropping my hand. “And as I said earlier in our conversation, that’s not a threat, it’s a fact.”

The arrogance drifts from his face and I leave him standing in the cold alley, rolling over my words. Good. He better catch on quick.

Chapter 22

Tilly

The entire evening has been a disaster. I was fuming. If I wouldn’t have been in such a public place I might have flipped the table.

May third.

He booked our wedding for May fucking third and didn’t even bother to ask me or even tell me. He just assumed I’d play right along like the good little wife he thought I wanted to be.

We argued for thirty straight minutes. Blaine was a lawyer, so it was a pointless fight and instead of kneeing him in the balls for making me look like an idiot in front of everyone, I agreed to at least see the venue this week. He apologized profusely and thought I would love the surprise.
