There’s that gut feeling.

“What do you think you’re doing?” He asks calmly.

I stop short of the foyer. “I think we need to slow down.”

“Tilly.” His nostrils flare as he practically growls my name.

An unfamiliar gleam twinkles in his eye that makes a chill run down my spine.

All my alarms bells go off.

“I’m going home.” I turn to leave when I feel his grip on my upper arm.

“You don’t walk away from me.” His hand tightens, his fingertips digging into my skin so hard I know it will bruise.

“You’re hurting me, Blaine," I hiss.

With a hard shove, he spins me, slamming me against the kitchen wall. Pain sears through the back of my skull, leaving a dull ache.

I meet his wild eyes. He looks deranged. Like a completely different person before it suddenly disappears. He immediately tugs me to his chest. “I’m sorry.” He apologizes quickly. “That was uncalled for.”

Uncalled for?

I couldn’t breathe. I never had someone physically hurt me. Put their hands on me.

I was frozen in place and confused on his shift in behavior. He’s never been aggressive towards me in any way.

His hand smooths down my back and he presses a quick kiss to my hair. “Now.” He pulls back, looking down at me with concern. “It’s been a long day. How about you go home, soak in a hot bath and tomorrow we can take a look at the calendar for a new possible date?”

The tension was gone from his body, so I slightly relaxed, giving a timid smile because I knew that’s what he wanted to see. “Ok.”

I step away uneasy, still trying to figure out what just transpired in the matter of a few minutes.

“Drive safe.” His phone rings, and he pulls it up to his ear to answer.

With a wave of his hand, he starts his conversation, sending me on my way like he didn’t just slam me into a solid wall.

With shaky legs, I step out into the hall and that inner voice that has been screaming since I let him slide this ring on my finger starts up again, but this time, I was actually quiet enough to listen to her.

Chapter 26

Greyson

My fingers pinch the bridge of my nose. It’s been three days since I’ve seen Tilly. All I’ve done is workout, look over emails from my doctor, and dodge calls from Mavery. I know she's doing her job, but I don’t want to take part in planning some bullshit story line about my nonexistent love life.

“Look! They’re perfec!” June beams.

I glance down at the pink nail polish that’s smeared all over my toes.

“You like them?” I ask.

She nods with a huge smile. “Pink is my favorite.”

“Oh, aren’t those cute!” Elle chirps and before I can contest, she snaps a picture.

“Eloise,” I grit out.

“What?” She blinks innocently.
