I have class. You need to leave. She moves her hands effortlessly.

It almost made me laugh. She knows I love her voice so she’s not giving it to me. Even though I just heard her speak, it wasn’t for me.

Punishment I’m assuming.

She’s going to play it like that? Honestly, I expected nothing less.

“Meet me later?” I ask.

She snorts out a laugh. No.

“Why not?”

I’m engaged.

“What’s your point?”

Her eyes narrow. It’s inappropriate.

I smirk and push to my feet. Casually I walk to the door, letting her think she's won this round. When I make it just outside, I turn back. “Nah, inappropriate would be letting me kiss you senseless while your fiancé was upstairs. In your bed.”

Her jaw drops and I knock my knuckles against the door before I saunter off.

I came to play, because Tilly Harper…. she was a whole different ball game.

Chapter 6

Greyson

Last month.

The bottle in my hand is almost empty. I wasn’t completely numb, but the pain and raging anger had subsided just enough I felt mellow. I knew the only thing that would bring me out of this funk. Out of my self-destruction.

Her.

It may have been years since I’ve let myself get close to her. Allow myself anything more than a few minutes of conversation. Not much contact. That would just counteract everything. But tonight was different. I got some news that alters the course of my life.

I’ve only had one thing that was constant. One thing that I consistently loved more than football and since I was in town for the annual charity auction, there was no holding me back. Not in this state.

My hand reaches, up, knocking on Tilly Harper’s front door.

It was late. Sometime after two AM. I wasn’t exactly sure because I had cut off my phone when I got into town tonight.

A few minutes pass before the door opens. I was surprised because I knew she didn’t sleep with her hearing aids in and chances she heard me were slim.

My hands are braced against the door frame and my head that was hanging lifts at her voice.

“Greyson?”

God, she was beautiful. Big blue eyes. Golden hair. Those pouty lips and that dainty nose that turned up just a little at the end. She was just as gorgeous as she was seven years ago. When I broke her heart because at the time, it’s what I had to do.

But now…...

My gaze holds hers as the words slip out of my mouth. “I need you."

Her eyes widen and her lips part as I take a step in, backing her up inside the foyer.

“Grey,” she croaks out.
