As Aria calls Rose to discuss the reservations, I scramble to come up with a solution, racking my brain for any possible way to salvage the situation. I turn back and ask the receptionist, “Um, is there any chance you have another room available? We’re here checking the venue for an upcoming wedding, but it is better that we have separate rooms.”

The receptionist shakes her head regretfully. “I’m sorry, sir, but we’re fully booked for the weekend. However, if you’d like, I can put you on a waiting list in case there are any cancellations.”

I glance at Aria, silently pleading for her to understand as she is waiting for Rose to call back.

She sighs, running a hand through her hair in frustration. “This is just great. I can’t believe this is happening.”

I could feel the tension between us thickening by the second, the weight of the situation pressing down on us. With the way things are between us, there’s no way that we’re staying in the same room together.

Earlier, I wanted to escape being in the car with her, and now we might have to share a room. As appealing as it sounds, I would rather not go through that stress. I want to be able to relax.

After an unproductive phone call with Rose, we settle down to rack our brains, thinking of what we can do.

As we’re standing there contemplating what to do, a miracle happens. The receptionist’s phone rings, and after a brief conversation, her face lights up with relief.

“Good news! Someone just canceled their online reservation, so we have another room available after all.”

I let out a sigh of relief, feeling a weight lift off my shoulders. “Thank you so much! That’s a huge relief.”

Aria nods in agreement, a small smile tugging at the corners of her lips. “Yes, thank you.”

With the rooming situation sorted, we make our way to our respective rooms, and the tension from earlier was slowly dissipating. And as I settled into bed that night, I couldn’t help but feel grateful for the unexpected turn of events that had brought us closer together, if only for a moment.

I lay in bed, unable to shake the thoughts of Aria from my mind. I toss and turn in bed, the sheets feeling restrictive against my skin. With each passing minute, the weight of the day’s events presses down on me, leaving me restless and unable to find solace in sleep.

Frustrated, I go to take a walk along the beach, hoping the sound of the crashing waves and the vast expanse of the starry sky will help clear my mind.

As I step onto the soft sand, the cool breeze brushes against my face, offering a welcome reprieve from the stifling heat of the hotel room. The rhythmic sound of the waves crashing against the shore soothes my frayed nerves, and for a moment, I find myself lost in the serene beauty of the night.

But as I make my way further down the beach, my thoughts inevitably drift back to Aria. What is she doing right now? Is she still awake, wrestling with her own thoughts and emotions? The thought of her just a few rooms away fills me with a strange mix of longing and unease, leaving me with an inexplicable urge to seek her out.

To my surprise, as I reach the edge of the beach, I spot a familiar figure sitting on the sand, her gaze fixed on the vast expanse of the night sky—Aria. I hadn’t expected to find her here, but somehow, her presence feels inevitable, as if the universe had conspired to bring us together once again.

I hesitate for a moment, unsure if I should approach her. But before I can make a decision, she senses my presence and turns to look at me, her eyes reflecting the shimmering light of the moon above.

We sit side by side on the beach, the cool sand beneath us. Aria breaks the silence. “I couldn’t sleep,” she admits softly, her eyes fixed on the horizon where the sky meets the sea. “I thought I’d come out here and clear my head.”

I nod in understanding, grateful for the opportunity to finally talk to her without the weight of the day’s events looming over us. “I know the feeling. Sometimes the sound of the waves is the only thing that can calm my mind.”

We fall into an easy conversation, the words flowing effortlessly between us as we catch up on each other’s lives. I tell her about my job in the city, the long hours and demanding clients, but also the sense of fulfillment I get from helping people. She listens intently, nodding along as I speak.

“And what about you?” I ask, turning the conversation back to her. “How’s your business going?”

Aria’s face lights up at the mention of her business, a small smile playing at the corners of her lips. “It’s been challenging but rewarding.”

I can’t help but feel a pang of regret at her words, knowing that I had left her behind all those years ago to pursue my own dreams in the city. “I’m glad to hear that. You always had a knack for baking.”

She gives me a wistful smile, a hint of sadness lingering in her eyes. “Yeah, it’s funny how things turn out.”

Suddenly, her voice softens, and she asks the question I’ve been dreading. “So, do you have a girlfriend waiting for you in the city?”

I swallow hard, feeling a lump form in my throat. “No,” I reply truthfully, meeting her gaze head-on. “No one’s ever been able to compare to you, Aria.”

The air between us crackles with unspoken emotions as my words hang heavy in the air. And as we sit there, bathed in the soft glow of the moonlight, I can’t help but wonder if maybe, just maybe, this could be the unexpected reunion we need.

As the conversation continues to flow, the barriers that once stood between us begin to crumble, replaced by a newfound sense of connection and understanding. And as we sit there, beneath the starry sky, I can’t help but feel grateful for this unexpected opportunity to reconnect with the woman who has always held a special place in my heart.
