It took her two seconds to decide. Two seconds to give up her food. She gave me food. She saved me. Perhaps my life. Her kindness saved my soul. She brought back hope.

So, I followed her. That night and every one since.

And while she might have saved my soul all those months ago, she repaired my shattered heart along the way. She is mine. I won’t give her up.

But she’s running. Did we push her too far? No, there was no fear in the sweet coconut scent of her.

I’m watching her so closely that when she looks up, those strange eyes of hers catch the light, turning silver in parts and blue in others. She locks eyes with me, and her cheeks pinken, but she smiles.

She’s radiant.

I watch her talk with Hazel and another omega with red hair, I think the omegas name is Laurel. A pack lingers closer than I’d like, but they aren’t looking at my beta.

“She is really good at talking with people, isn’t she?” Falcon says from beside me. “A bit like a chameleon.”

I curl my lip at his words, refusing to look where I really want to, at the alpha beside me. He doesn’t deserve it. “She’s not like that…she’s wearing a mask.”

Falcon focuses on her. “Are you going to forgive us, or is this a futile exercise?”

I grind my teeth and focus on the beta. She looks over and sees Falcon. He gestures to her, and she excuses herself, moving lithely through the crowd.

With every step that she gets closer, her true expressions bleed through, and I see the real her. Cautious, intrigued, wary.

“What is it about her?” Falcon murmurs.

“She’s my magic.” I say and step away from him, closing the distance between us. She peers up at me, and I reach up to finger comb her hair behind her ear.

“Dylan?”

“You look beautiful this morning.” I say with all the truth that I have.

Her eyes glitter and crinkle at the edges. How can eyes smile? Hers can.

“You look beautiful all the time,” she says back with an easy grin.

Falcon approaches and stops too close to me. The unspoken claiming makes me want to slap my arm into his chest and bounce him back a few steps.

Whether she knows what he’s doing consciously or not, her instincts do, and her smile vanishes as she steps back, carefully removing herself from his little aura cloud.

She turns away and spots her sister heading in our direction. I don’t say a word as Silver approaches and sidles in-between Falcon and I, and though part of me wants to tear her apart, the other part of me spots the open opportunity to gather all of my betas attention.

“So, Mr Treyfield, I’m really enjoying the party, but I was wondering if you had a garden?”

“We do.”

I snort and take a step towards Nyx. She cuts me an amused glance that tells me she knows exactly what I’m doing. The noise in the room is loud, but it fades away with her smile.

“Would you care to show me?” Silver flutters her eyelashes at Falcon, and I turn back, snarling.

Falcon cocks his head to the side, watching me.

Don’t do it. I mentally shout at him. Don’t you dare do it!

“I'd be delighted to show you.” Falcon says in a deep voice.

Wrong answer, asshole. I turn on my heel, sweep Nyx into my wake, and stalk out of the ridiculous yellow-coloured room. Fuck that alpha and his games.

“Hey, slow down!”
