She hums and taps my chest. “How long ago was that?”

“Oh, I don’t know, about twelve years ago. I didn’t spend much time with them growing up, my father had rigorous ideals for how I should be. Mother could only save me so much.”

She pulls back, and I grab the front of her jumper and pull her close.

“Where did you come from?” I ask her. “I don't tell anyone about my family. But somehow you’re getting inside my head, little beta.”

“I was always there, Alpha Treyfield, in the shadows, serving guests. But I’m glad I’m in your head since you’re in mine.”

I study her, seeing the tiny scar on her forehead, the crinkles at the side of her eyes. The way her lips are this shade of pink that I didn’t even know existed, and those eyes of hers, they sparkle. Her eyes aren’t just plain slate; they are gun mental and slate and indigo and cobalt and all the sparkles of life.

“Me, too,” I whisper. I frown in consternation and then let her go.

“Come and have dessert with us. Snuggle with your omega. He needs you,” She says and takes my wrist in her hand. I feel the contact with my whole body.

“Still trying to fix us up?” I murmur.

“Of course,” she laughs softly. “I don’t think you’ll need me for much longer, though.”

“I think you're going to be disappointed when you discover the answer to that, Miss Davies.”

She looks at me over her shoulder. “I don’t understand.”

I shake my head and put a hand on the door before she can open it. I cuddle her from behind, pressing my body up against hers. She’s so small and soft, such a contrast to Dylan. My body craves both of them.

“Falcon?”

“Yes?”

“Do you know why Dylan is avoiding me?”

“I have a feeling it’s because of us,” I explain.

“Oh.” She stiffens. “I shouldn’t have touched you. I…oh, I didn’t think about that.”

I laugh softly and breathe into her neck. “I don’t think he’s worried about you touching us.” My hands trail over her hips, drawing lazy circles. “I think it’s more a case of he doesn’t like us touching you, but he doesn’t know what to do about it.”

She goes completely still. “I don’t think-”

“He wants you so much his instincts are driving him to want to challenge his alphas for you. You have magic, Onyx Davies. In your skin, in your voice, in your soul. You have captivated and entranced us all. You have made our omega angry. That is a gift.”

Her eyes are wide when she twists to look up at me. “That can’t be right…”

I lean down and kiss her forehead. “Watch for a while then, little observer, you will see that I’m always right.”

No matter what way I look at my behaviour over the last couple of days, I can’t see a way to make up to Dylan what I have done. I pace the foyer of the hotel and chew on my lip as I blindly go over and over it all. Where did I go wrong? Was Falcon right?

I turn on my heel and spot Silver coming out behind me, out of a lift that is just sliding its doors shut. There’s nowhere for me to go, the huge windows and glass doors have my body in silhouette of sunlight. I could go outside the hotel, but she wouldn’t hesitate to punish me for it. Resignation hits hard.

Silver’s face is scrunched up, and she’s almost shooting daggers at me. My face drains of blood, and I look away. I forgot about Silver. Wow. That's new. Another person I've let down. And I have nowhere to run.

She flips her hair and yanks on the thick checkered jacket as she stalks over to me. It’s early. There’s no one else here. She still looks around, just to make sure there’s no one who will spot her. Only then does she reach out, her fingers biting into my upper arm and drags me to the side of the room.

“Why haven’t you helped me meet them yet? I need time alone with them to win them over.” Her whine is bordering on a hiss of rage.
