I can hear a muffled voice on the other end, and my heart races with anticipation. Could it be a lead on Mia's whereabouts?

Xavier's face slowly shifts into a look of disbelief as he listens to whoever is on the other end of the line.

"What is it?" I demand, grabbing his arm. "What did they say?"

"It's Mia," he says finally. "There's no trace of her anywhere."

Even our contacts have no fucking clue where she is. She... really has just disappeared.

XAVIER

Antonio and I climb into the car in defeat and despair, shutting the door just as my phone goes off again, this time with a message from an unknown number.

Heard you lost something the message reads, glowing up at me.

"Antonio," I call.

He leans over and reads the message, his reaction similar to mine. Another message comes in.

So soft and sweet…

"Trace the number," I demand. "Now. Find out who the fuck this is."

Another message: I can see the attraction.

Antonio's eyes widen at the message, his frustration and anger mirroring my own. Without hesitation, he takes out his phone and begins tracing the unknown number, determined to uncover the identity of this mysterious sender. Finally, his face tenses up, a mix of determination and concern.

"The Petrovs," he says, voice hard and unnerving.

The Petrov family. Our biggest rival, a bug we've been meaning to squash for generations. Of course. Of course they have something to do with this. It reeks of opportunistic sabotage.

I clench my fists tightly as realization sets in. Mia's abduction was not only a personal matter, but it had become a battle between our families. The Petrovs had always been envious of our success and it seemed that they were now using Mia as a pawn to gain the upper hand.

I grit my teeth, trying to keep the fury in check. The Petrovs have been a thorn in our side for ages, always trying to undercut us at every opportunity. And now, they've stooped to new lows to get what they want.

"Fuckers," I mutter under my breath.

Suddenly, my phone rings again, this time with a call from an unknown number. I hesitate for a moment before answering it.

"Hello?" I say cautiously.

There's a pause on the other end of the line before a deep, gravelly voice speaks up. "You want your girl back, don't you?"

My heart pounds in my chest as I grip the phone tighter. "Who is this?"

The voice chuckles softly. "Let's just say I'm a friend of a friend."

I grind my teeth together, feeling the anger and frustration boil over inside me. "You're not going to get away with this," I snarl.

He sounds amused when he says, "We'll see about that."

"You have five seconds to tell me where Mia is before I come over there and burn everything down," I growl into the phone.

The man on the other end chuckles darkly before hanging up the phone. I throw Antonio's phone against the dashboard in frustration, feeling helpless and enraged at once, only to snatch it up when it goes off again.

The newest message contains a ransom and specific instructions of where to drop the money. Money--of course. Those idiots can't seem to think any bigger than dollar bills.
