I give him a confident nod and reply quickly, my voice heavy with assurance; "Consider it done."

Mulligan gives another approving nod as he turns away from me again and strides out the door without another word.

I whip out my phone and dial quickly.

"Hello?" Antonio answers quickly.

"There's been a development," I tell him.

He grunts. "The last time I heard those words, I found out that you were a lying rat."

I smirk. "We'll have the full force of the FBI behind us, as well as access to all of their tools and intel."

"Well," he hums, "looks like you aren't a complete sack of shit after all."

"Thanks," I reply dryly before abruptly ending the call.

The Petrovs are powerful and dangerous, and I know that taking them on won't be easy. But now more than ever, I'm determined to see this through. Not just for Mia's sake - but also for justice itself.

"Xavier," Antonio says from the door of my office. "Just got off the phone with Lucas."

That makes me sit up straighter. "And?"

He smirks triumphantly. "He's got a team at the FBI working with him. More man power."

I purse my lips into a thin line, "More rules."

Antonio nods, knowing this already. "Yes, but more resources. This is a good thing. He's coming through."

"Well," I start optimistically, "he's always been a go-getter, I suppose."

Antonio's words echo in my mind, ringing with irony. "I guess his love is enough after all," he remarks, a tinge of bitterness in his voice.

I swallow hard, the guilt growing stronger. It's a bitter reminder of my own shortsightedness and the failure to see beyond the surface. I never should have told Mia that love isn't enough. I was being stupid, and letting my hurt control me. This is my fault.

"Hey," Antonio intrudes on my thoughts. "I know that look. We're both at fault here, don't go putting the blame on yourself."

"Yeah," I reply, unconvinced.

Lucas's unwavering dedication to finding Mia, fueled by his love for her, has been his driving force since she came into our lives. And now, he's proving that his commitment and resourcefulness extend beyond our family's protocols and disputes.

"At least we know we can trust him to do everything he can," I mumble thoughtfully. I'll give him credit for that, at least.

A moment later, my phone buzzes with a message from Lucas. Tonight, ten minutes, usual.

"He's meeting us at the usual spot," I say, getting up from my seat. "Ten minutes, let's go."

We head out to the meet-up spot, a quiet diner with dim lighting that Lucas likes to use for these kinds of meetings. When we arrive, Lucas is already there and nursing a cup of coffee.

"Hey guys," he greets us, looking up from his phone. "Thanks for coming."

Antonio and I take seats across from him and order some coffee of our own.

"So," Lucas starts, leaning in. "I've confirmed the movement of a shipment in a few days, but the contents have been hush-hush."
