"Yeah, you're right," Mia sighed. "Better safe than sorry, right? I'll tell Tom what you told me and have him ask the boss if he will allow your friend on board."

"Thank you. You are the best. I need one more favor, though."

"What is it now?"

"I want to rent an Airbnb in town so Jasmine will have a place to hide from her boyfriend, but if I book it, I'll have to use my credit card, and he might be able to trace the place. People saw Jasmine and me hanging out together, so he wouldn't have much trouble figuring out who was helping her. If you book the rental, though, he won't be able to find her."

"That's actually a smart idea. I'll book a place, and I suggest that you join her. If he's the bad apple you think he is, you don't want him coming after you when he searches for his girlfriend."

"Good point. I might even save a few dollars by canceling my extra night in the hotel. I'll pay you back, of course."

"Pfft. That's the last thing you need to worry about. I'll try to find a place that's walking distance from the hotel. You don't want to take a taxi because that could also lead him to you."

Margo chuckled. "Look at us. We are like a couple of sleuths. I'll leave my luggage in the hotel and go with just a large satchel. I'll tell Jasmine to do the same."

"I'll call you back once I make the reservation."

"Thanks, Mia. I really appreciate it."

"No problem. I'm happy to help. Getting the boss's approval for your friend to come on board might take a little longer, but at least she will be safe in the meantime."

"True that. If the boss says no, I'll try to get her to the embassy. Maybe they can help, although I doubt it. She can't even prove who she is without at least her driver's license."

"Let's keep our fingers crossed that the boss agrees."

When Mia ended the call, Margo slumped in the armchair, her energy level dropping like a rock now that she had done all she could.

But was it all?

She needed to think creatively. Perhaps one of Jasmine's parents could fly in and bring her birth certificate along with some pictures. That was another way to prove who she was. Or maybe she had an expired passport that they could get. That should be helpful as well. After all, it wasn't uncommon for people to get mugged while abroad and have all of their documents and money taken, and yet they somehow found a way to return home.

KIAN

"Do we have time for another cigar before the wedding?" Kalugal glanced at his watch. "Or do you need to get ready?"

Kian chuckled. "How long will it take me to put on a tux? Let's go to my suite."

His cousin grinned. "I was hoping you'd say that. Jacki is still with Callie, so I assume Syssi is too. They are getting dressed in Wonder's suite."

"Can I join?" Anandur asked from behind them. "I was told to stay away from the suite until they were done. My tux is in Brundar and Callie's place, and I'm not in the mood to hang out with my brother. Or I should rather say that he's not in the mood to hang out with me."

"Is he nervous about the ceremony?" Kalugal asked.

Anandur shrugged. "Probably. I can't imagine what his vows to Callie will be like. He does not know how to express his emotions, so this must be difficult for him. I just hope he wrote something because I'm sure Callie did. She doesn't suffer from the same limitations he does. She's a loving, caring sweetheart, and she knows how to express herself in words."

Kian nodded. "He'll be fine even if he doesn't have anything profound prepared. All he needs to say is that he will love her forever, which is a given, and it will be enough for her."

Anandur made a face that indicated he disagreed. "It might be true on the day-to-day, but I bet she is hoping for him to say something more profound in front of the entire clan."

"Your vows were great." Kalugal clapped Anandur on the back. "I laughed so hard, and I even teared up a little."

"Thank you." Anandur put a hand over his chest. "It means a lot to me to hear you say that. I worked on them for months."

"Really?" Kian arched a brow.

He was never sure whether Anandur was serious or joking.
