MARGO

The drug must have further worn off, and Margo was starting to feel more like her old skeptical self again.

The third guy who had come with Kevin was nearly as good-looking as his two friends, and that just didn't make sense. What kind of an outfit employed only gorgeous guys?

Frankie had said that her guy looked like a god, and Margo had thought that she was exaggerating, but if he looked anything like these three, then Frankie was right.

"What did you do with Modana and his men?" Negal asked Kevin.

"I left them to contemplate their past and their future." Kevin lifted the small bell that Margo hadn't noticed before and shook it a couple of times.

The chef emerged from the kitchen and frowned at the new guest.

"Please be a good chap and bring out two more plates for me and my friend."

He'd said please, but Margo noted the hypnotic undertones in his voice. Except this time, she hadn't felt compelled to do his bidding as she had the first time. Perhaps it was because he'd addressed the chef as chap, which was obviously not directed at her.

The chef wrung his hands. "Of course, señor. Will Señor Modana be joining you?"

"No. He and his men will be dining later."

As the chef dipped his head and scurried into the kitchen, Kevin shifted his gaze to Jasmine and then to Margo. "You two seem to be a little more alert. Are the drugs wearing off?"

"I think so," Margo said. "I know that Alberto was trying to get us addicted, but I hope one dose is not enough to do that. I don't know anyone who’s had to go through withdrawal, but if it's as bad as they portray it in movies, then it's nasty."

Jasmine nodded. "I hate to admit it, but I miss the euphoria. Now all I feel is sad." She pouted prettily, and Margo gritted her teeth.

What was happening to her?

She'd never been the jealous type, and she liked Jasmine, but now she was getting angry every time the woman flaunted her superior beauty and allure.

Thankfully, Negal seemed indifferent to her charms, and Kevin seemed amused. The only one who was affected was the third guy, whom no one had bothered to introduce.

Jasmine must have noticed the same thing because she turned her dazzling smile on the guy. "Your friends were remiss and didn't introduce you."

"Edgar, or Ed. I'm the helicopter pilot."

"Nice to meet you, Ed."

"It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance." Ed inclined his head.

Jasmine affected a gasp and put her hand over her chest. "Such beautiful manners you have, Ed."

He laughed. "I would make a Little Red Riding Hood joke, but given the circumstances, I shouldn't."

"Yeah." Jasmine's smile wilted. "I've already met the big bad wolf."

As the two continued talking, Margo was glad that Jasmine was focusing her attention on the pilot instead of flirting with Negal.

The door to the kitchen opened, and the chef came out carrying a tray with two more plates and place settings. While he served the two new dinner guests, Margo thought about what Kevin had said a few moments ago in regard to Modana and his men.

What had he meant by them contemplating their past and future? Had he hypnotized them?

She'd heard that hypnosis was a powerful tool that could be used in therapeutic ways. Was that what Kevin had meant?

Margo waited for the chef to be done and return to the kitchen before turning to Kevin. "Did you use hypnosis on the cartel boss and his men?"

Kevin shot Negal a glance, and Negal nodded, confirming that he had told them about it. "Margo wondered how you were able to make the guards obey your command so readily. I told her that you are a powerful hypnotist."
