The cabin's living area was spacious and looked well put together and cozy, but it was a far cry from the opulence of the presidential suite in the hotel. Although, in Margo's opinion, the cabin's warm earth tones and Tuscany style decor were much more inviting than the cold modern look of the hotel penthouse, but that was a matter of personal taste.

"So, what do you think?" Mia asked. "Nice, right?"

"It's perfect, and I'm glad that it's not too fancy. It makes me feel a little less guilty about Jaz staying on the lower decks."

Mia frowned. "This is not fancy? What are you comparing it to?"

"The presidential suite at the resort." Margo helped Frankie get out of the chair and sit on the couch. "That's where Jasmine was staying with her fake boyfriend. I still don't understand why he bothered to spend so much money on such a fancy suite if all along he intended to deliver her to his boss. He could have rented a much cheaper room, and Jaz wouldn't have had a problem with that." She sat next to Frankie on the couch.

"Maybe the presidential suite is permanently rented out to the cartel bosses," Mia said. "I bet that's where his brother is staying right now."

Margo shivered. "Don't remind me. I want to forget about that scumbag. Although, to be fair, I don't think he even knew that his brother intended to gift me to him."

"That doesn't make him any less of a scumbag." Mia crossed her legs, which took Margo's breath away.

It was such a simple thing that most people took for granted, but Mia had never done that when she'd still worn a prosthesis. Now that her legs were almost fully regrown, she was finally able to do it. Soon, Mia would walk on her own two legs, which was proof that miracles could happen.

Margo felt tears prickling the back of her eyes. "What do you know about Carlos?" she asked, still staring at Mia's crossed legs.

"Not much," Mia admitted. "Toven said that he was worse than his brother. I mean Tom. Toven is Tom's other name."

"Like a middle name?" Margo asked.

Mia winced. "His real name is Toven, but it's so unusual that he goes by Tom with everyone other than his close family and friends."

Margo had never heard of a name like that before, but that wasn't unusual in a country with immigrants from all over the world. It also wasn't difficult to pronounce.

Frankie chuckled. "Consider that just one tiny tidbit of information out of everything we are going to tell you. I think you will need a stiff drink to hear the rest."

Margo's heartbeat sped up. "I've just been through a nightmare. I'm not sure I can handle any more."

"Don't worry." Mia drove her chair toward the kitchenette. "Everything we are going to tell you is great news, so don't be scared."

Margo narrowed her eyes at Mia. "So why do I need a drink?"

"Because you need to keep an open mind and suspend your disbelief, and it's not easy for you to do either."

"That's not true. I'm very open-minded. I read about shifters, for crying out loud. Talk about suspending disbelief."

"You've got a point there." Mia opened the under-counter fridge and pulled out a bottle of vodka, a container of orange juice, and another of cranberry juice. "Which one do you like better?"

Margo pushed to her feet and walked over to the bar. "The cranberry, but I'll do the mixing. I've been drugged, so I don't want to overdo it with the alcohol. I'll just put a tiny bit of vodka in it for the taste."

Mia's eyes widened. "You should have said something. What did they give you?"

"I don't know. Jasmine thinks it was heroin. Alberto, that's the scumbag fake boyfriend, injected both of us with it." She sighed. "I hate to admit it, but it felt damn good. Of course, I will never do that willingly, but I can understand people who get addicted to the stuff."

As Mia and Frankie exchanged knowing glances, Margo's hackles rose. "What? Did either of you try it and not tell me?"

"We didn't try heroin," Frankie said.

Margo glared at her. "But you've tried some other illicit drug."

"It's not illicit." Mia waved a hand at the three bottles. "Mix the drinks, Margo, and let's sit down. As promised, everything shall soon be revealed."
