Frankie chuckled. "You've just described all the symptoms of my transition. I didn't know that they were the same as withdrawal from heroin."

"Are you still feeling them?" Bridget asked.

Frankie scrunched her nose. "I was so excited to see Margo that I wasn't paying attention, but now that I think about it, I haven't been nauseous all day. I still have some muscle pain, though, and I get tired easily."

"How long is this stage of the transition going to last?" Margo asked. "Frankie told me that only the beginning is difficult, and then the changes continue under the hood, so to speak."

Evidently, Margo had retained more information than Frankie had expected her to, and the rebound from her fall down the rabbit hole hadn't messed with her sharp brain.

"I'll know more once I check Frankie's vitals," Bridget said. "It might already be over."

Frankie's heart leaped in her chest. "Am I ready for the test?"

The doctor shook her head. "You are transitioning as fast as a teenager, but unlike the teenagers, you're still full of Dagor's venom, and that might skew the results. We need to wait another day or two until it leaves your system."

Damn. Not wanting to scare Margo, Frankie and Mia hadn't told her about the fangs and venom yet, and knowing her suspicious friend, she would latch on to Bridget's slip-up like a baby monkey to its mama.

Wincing, Frankie turned to look at Margo, who was gaping at her with wide, shocked eyes. "Venom? What is she talking about?"

"We didn't get that deep into the rabbit hole yet. Toven told you that there is a lot more for you to learn."

"It will have to wait." Bridget took command of the wheelchair. "Frankie needs to rest." She pushed the chair to the other room.

"Do you need help getting onto the bed?" Margo asked.

"I'm good." Frankie put her hand on the railing and pulled herself up. She used the step stool to climb into the bed. "As much as I hate to admit it, I really need to lie down." She stretched out and let out a sigh. "I don't want to fall asleep, though. I haven't seen Dagor since he went to the meeting with Aru."

"Do you need help changing into a nightgown?" Margo asked.

Frankie shook her head. "I don't have the energy. I'm wearing comfy things, so I'll just take off the bra and go to sleep like this."

"You're not going to sleep yet." The doctor wrapped a blood pressure cuff around Frankie's arm. "I need to check your heartbeat, your temperature, the length of your limbs, etc., etc. You know the drill."

Frankie winced. "Yeah, I do."

"Do you need me to leave?" Margo asked the doctor.

"It's a little cramped in here, so I would appreciate you waiting in the front room until I'm done. It's not going to take more than ten minutes."

"No problem." Margo blew Frankie an air kiss, left the room, and closed the door behind her.

"How is Margo taking it?" Bridget asked.

"Denial at first, and then acceptance. I was in Margo's shoes only a few days ago, so I know what she's going through. It's wonderful and terrifying at the same time." Frankie closed her eyes. "It feels like it has been weeks since I boarded this ship, months even. Are we in a time warp?"

Bridget snorted softly. "The perception of time changes based on the number of new experiences. That's why when a lot is happening, it feels like time is slowing down, and when everything is just routine, we look back and think where did the time go?"

"Makes sense." Frankie opened her eyes and leveled her gaze on Bridget. "Were you serious about not wanting to test me because of Dagor's venom still circulating in my blood?"

"I don't jest about things like that." Bridget finished noting the blood pressure results and pulled out a measuring tape from her pocket. "It's fascinating how every Dormant's transition is different. You might be doing it so fast because of Dagor's potent godly venom, or because you are close to the source, or a combination of both."

"Is there a way to know?"

"Not yet, but there will be. Kaia is working on it."

Kaia was William's mate, and according to rumors, she was a prodigy, but Frankie didn't know what she was working on. It probably had to do with genetics, and it wasn't a subject she knew a lot about, but perhaps once she was out of the clinic and back on her feet, she could ask Kaia to explain it to her in layman's terms.

After all, Frankie had eternity to learn any subject she wanted, even if some took an extraordinarily long time to do.
