The only name that struck her as odd in that list was Negal's. "Is that something Negal should have told me on the way?"

"No." Dagor rubbed a hand over the back of his neck and then grimaced. "Sorry about my disheveled appearance. I fell asleep on the couch, and when Toven woke me up, I rushed down here to see Frankie. How is she doing?"

"Tired. Bridget said that she could have been ready for the test, whatever that is, if she wasn't pumped full of your venom. She said it would skew the results. Care to explain?"

Dagor had just woken up, and he didn't know how to handle the situation. If she pressed hard enough, he might cave in and give her an explanation.

"I really don't." He winced. "Sorry, but it's a delicate type of answer, and I'm not the one who should be doing it. Perhaps after Bridget is done examining Frankie, you can go in and ask her."

"Maybe I will." Margo leaned against the nurse's desk and crossed her arms over her chest.

She was anxious to see Jasmine, but she had a feeling that the answer to the venom question was crucial. Venom usually went together with fangs, but none of the immortals and gods she'd met so far had them. Could it be that their semen was venomous?

She chuckled. It gave credence to the infamous term: a one-eyed trouser snake.

"What's so funny?" Dagor asked.

Margo lifted a brow. "Oh, I don't know if I should tell you that. It's probably something that you need to hear from Frankie."

He laughed. "Touché."

They waited another minute or so for the door to open and for the doctor to step out. "You can go in," she told Dagor and then turned to Margo. "I need you to stay for a moment."

"Of course."

The doctor waited until Dagor closed the door behind him. "You said that both you and Jasmine were injected with the drug, correct?"

"Yes."

"Then I should check on her as well. She might have more severe withdrawal symptoms than you, and she won't know who to turn to."

Margo nodded. "She seemed fine the last time I saw her, but that was several hours ago, and she might have taken a turn for the worse. I probably should come along, though. I think Jaz will be less intimidated by you if I'm there."

The petite doctor frowned. "I'm not intimidating."

"Perhaps not to the people who know you, but you have a formidable presence, and poor Jasmine has been through a lot. She might be a little skittish." The doctor was also a gorgeous redhead, and it would be really difficult to explain why everyone on the ship was so damn good-looking.

"Fine. Let's go." The doctor turned to leave.

"Can you wait a moment for me to say goodbye to Frankie?"

"I don't have a lot of time." Bridget turned back around and glanced at her smartwatch. "I still need to get ready for the wedding." She lifted her head and looked up at Margo. "Are you going to attend?"

"I don't think so. It's been a very long and exciting day for me. I want to take a long bath, crawl into bed with a gallon of ice cream, and watch sitcom reruns."

"I hear you." The doctor sighed. "That actually sounds like a dream, but I have to attend, and so should you. If you are to become a member of this community, you should start mingling and getting to know people, and there is no better time to do it than when everyone is in a good mood." She leaned closer to Margo. "And that's especially true in regard to our esteemed regent. Kian is cranky on a good day, and you haven't seen intimidating until you’ve met him. But he loves weddings, and that means he's always in a good mood during celebratory times."

That was excellent advice, and Margo decided to follow it even if it meant seeing Negal with the nurse.

"Thank you for the advice, doctor. I'm going to take it."

"Smart girl." Bridget patted her arm. "Now go and say goodbye to your friend, and don't take too long. We need to check on Jasmine."

PETER

Holding a stack of fresh towels and a change of linen in his arms, Peter made his way back to his cabin, and as he thought about the reason for the need to change the bedding, he started whistling a happy tune.
