Kri grimaced. "She's a damn good actress. She projected false tells, and I fell for it time and again."

"How much did you lose?" Ella asked.

"All of the Doritos. We were playing for chips."

"I need to pay this Jasmine a visit," Eva said. "No one is that good of an actress. Not to fool an immortal Guardian."

"We can go together," Sharon offered. "I'm good at reading people."

"Yes, you are, my dear." Eva raised her glass in salute. "That's what makes you such a good detective."

"Your detective work can wait for tomorrow," Amanda said. "Right now, I want to see the dress." She glared at Eva. "The one that you insisted on commissioning for your girl without using any of my recommended designers."

Wincing, Sharon hid behind her drink.

Amanda and Eva had waged a war over who was going to help her choose her wedding dress, and although Sharon trusted Amanda more with everything that had to do with fashion, Eva was like a mother to her, and she'd felt obligated to let her do that.

"It's a beautiful dress." Eva rose to her feet. "Do you want to show it off?"

Sharon put her drink on the coffee table. "Are you kidding me? That's the highlight of the party." She joined her boss. "That's what everyone here has been waiting for."

Ella rose to her feet. "I want to check out the bridesmaids' dresses. You didn't let us see them before, and I want to try mine on."

"You will look great in yours," Eva said.

Sharon paused at the door to Eva's bedroom, where her dress was waiting. "It's too early for me to get dressed, but you are welcome to come take a look."

The ladies crowded at the doorway, craning their necks to catch a glimpse of the wedding dress that was carefully hung on a dress form.

Sharon had found the design in one of the gossip magazines that had featured a story about a famous singer getting married in Hawaii. The dress was gorgeous, and Sharon had fallen in love. Eva had taken the picture to a seamstress, and the woman had done an admirable job of replicating it.

Made of delicate lace and soft, flowing fabric, the dress was a fusion of traditional and modern, with a fitted bodice adorned with intricate beading leading down to a full skirt.

"You can come inside," Eva said.

Her friends oohed and aahed, but she didn't know whether they were just being supportive or if they really liked the dress.

It didn't really matter. What mattered was that she loved it and looked fabulous in it.

"It's so uniquely you," Eva said. "It came out even better than I expected."

Tessa clapped her hands. "Oh, Sharon! It's like something out of a fairy tale! You're going to look like a princess!"

Carol stepped forward and smoothed her hand over the fabric. "It's beautiful. Robert won't know what hit him when he sees you walking down the aisle."

Amanda pursed her lips. "I have to admit that it's much better than I expected." She clapped Eva on her back. "Good job finding that seamstress."

"I can give you her contact info," Eva teased, knowing perfectly well that Amanda would never use a lowly seamstress for anything other than alterations.

Ruth, who hardly ever said anything, walked over to Sharon and put her hand on her shoulder. "It's not just the dress that makes the bride beautiful. It's the love and happiness she radiates. And you, my dear Sharon, are already glowing even before you put the dress on."

FRANKIE

"Is here okay?" Frankie pointed at the couch.

Bridget nodded. "It's fine."
