She narrowed her eyes at him. “Explain.”

“Hell’s teeth, female.” How many fucking extra words did she want from him? He’d covered the most important ones.

Haziel stared at him, demanding he answer.

“With Rosabella, it was like hankering for something that I could not have. The further it went, the more I wanted it. It was the wanting more than the thing in the end. Rosabella is not you. She lacks your warmth, and your vitality, your kindness, and your loyalty. She doesn’t make me a better version of myself.”

Her eyes softened. “And I do?”

“Yes, Haziel. You most certainly fucking do.” He dipped his head toward her, and then stopped. “And why am I the one doing all the explaining?” He didn’t bother to conceal his hurt from her as he said, “You left me.”

“I did.” Tears gleamed in her lovely eyes. “I didn’t want to, but I had promised Ramiel that if he helped you heal Eddie, I would separate myself from you.”

Her gaze begged him to understand, and he wanted to end Ramiel all over again. The archangel had bartered for his daughter’s life to get his love away from him. “And you never break a promise.” It was one of the things he valued about her, her integrity.

She crinkled her nose. “Not deliberately, but I kind of broke my word when you followed me to the horsemen.”

“Nah.” That memory was one of the sweetest of his life. “And you didn’t know I was coming, so technically you didn’t do anything wrong.” Then he got to the crux of the matter for him. “If you hadn’t promised Ramiel, would you have stayed?”

“Yes.” No hesitation and no doubt.

And that was enough talking for him. “May we get to the kissing part of the making up now?”

“Just one more question.”

He groaned aloud. “What?”

“How will this work?” She slid her arms over his chest and around his nape. “I am a seraph, and you are a hell prince. There has never been a coupling like us before.”

“And Nephilim were considered abominations and killed before,” Wrath said and pulled her hips flush with his. The sweet feel of her body against his almost brought him to his knees. “But you will find that I don’t give a fuck about any of that.”

“Wrath.” She giggled. “You know that we need permission from a full gathering.”

“Haziel.” He touched his lips to hers. “A full gathering will not keep me away from you.”

“Oh, Wrath.” And she softened against him. Raising her head to his, she kissed him.

The taste of her hit him anew, and he wanted more, all of her. But not here, not beneath Ramiel’s nose. Despise the fucker as he did, he knew too well the agony of watching another male leave with your female. Unleashing his wings, he flew them up and out of Ramiel’s throne room.

Chapter Forty-Two

Gabriel tapped at her cursed tablet as she glared at Haziel and Wrath across the greenroom. “It’s unprecedented.”

“But there is no rule against it, per se,” Ramiel said and winked at Haziel. Their new relationship left her feeling odd. The power balance had shifted between them, and she had to suppress the desire to pander to Ramiel. After all their time together, it had become reflex. She really did wish him happiness.

Wrath took her hand and kissed her knuckles.

“Where is Lucifer?” Haziel looked around the greenroom. All the archangels were here, and the other six hell princes. Ava had given her a hug when she’d walked in and whispered, “Bring him to his knees, sweetheart.”

Well, Haziel was not so sure she wanted to do that. Although Wrath had proven to be rather inventive on his knees. Once this gathering was over, she was planning a replay.

They’d flown to the earth plane and the theatre. She hadn’t been able to resist showing him how powerful seraphim wings really were. From the grin Wrath had shot her, he’d enjoyed it as much as she had. Despite her desire to be alone with him, he wanted this final hurdle dealt with before they went to his demesne.

Eddie grinned at them from where she was tucked beside Shade. Those two looked to be growing closer, and she wished for them all the joy she now felt.

“I support them.” Ramiel leaned against the wall beside the door.

“I don’t care either way.” Michael punched one fist into the opposite hands. “We have much bigger issues to deal with than one seraph coupling with a hell prince.”
