“Don’t call me,” Alaric snarled.

She laughed. “Be nice.”

His teeth snapped together. “I’ll only benice to you, sweetheart.”

Lia rolled her eyes as his brothers madegagging noises.

Galen said, “Dinner tomorrow? We’ll need totalk about Jonathon.”

“Dinner? We can meet for breakfast. The hotelhas a great breakfast buffet until eleven,” Aubrey said.

“No, we’re not meeting them for breakfast orlunch. Dinner is fine, and we’ll come down to Lia’s room at seven,”Alaric said, and his tone brooked no argument.

They said goodnight to his family, and helooked at Aubrey. “Where is the private entrance?”

“To the side,” she said.

Alaric held her hand and shortened his strideso she didn’t have to jog to keep up. She was only five-foot-three,and he was at least a foot taller. Up close, she was amazed at justhow big he was all over. Thick muscles, broad shoulders, and atapered waist. She couldn’t wait to get him naked.

He stopped walking suddenly and inhaledslowly. When he looked down at her, she could see his eyes weregolden and glowing. “If you don’t want me to mount you against thewall, then you need to stop thinking about whatever is turning youon. At least until we get into your home.”

Her cheeks heated with blush. “You can smellwhen I’m turned on?”

“Absolutely. You smell amazing. I want tocrawl under you skirt and lick you for hours. I’m pretty sureyou’ll taste as good as you smell, if not better. Sweet cream andhoney.” He licked his lips, and her knees went weak.

“Alaric,” she said, biting her lower lip. “Weshould get to my suite.”

They hustled to the private entrance. Next tothe security door was a thumbprint pad. She pressed her thumb to itand watched as a green light flashed on the screen. The doorclicked, and Alaric pushed it open. They entered a small foyer andshe lifted her face to the security camera in the corner.

“Aubrey Night, Access Code 117 andguest.”

There was a brief pause and then Robert, ahuman security guard, said, “Welcome home, Miss Night. Have apleasant evening.”

The second security door slid open, and theywalked through to the private elevator bay. After taking the secondelevator on the right she pushed the button for the fourteenthfloor and then pressed her thumb to another scanner. When the scanhad completed, the elevator began to move.

“The fifteenth floor is the penthouse andbelongs to my brother. On my floor, there are several empty suitesthat he uses for out-of-town masters or guests. The floors are fordifferent supernatural creatures—big cats on one floor, wolves onanother, witches on another, and so on. We discovered early on thatshifters can be especially sensitive to scents left behind, eventhough our cleaning crew is really amazing.”

He dropped his bag and pushed her against thewall. “Is there a camera in here?”

“Yep.”

His fingers teased the slit of her gown.“Damn.”

“Not that you’re not sexy, but I’d rather notgive Robert or any of the security guys a view of my tush or anyother part of my anatomy.”

“How about I just make you fall apart but youstay clothed?”

“I thought you were going to lick me forhours? I feel like I’m getting the short end of the stick.”

He barked out a laugh. “You’re feisty. I likeit.”

Her suite was the last on the left. Using herthumb once more, she unlocked her door and let Alaric in. She lovedher place. The suite had a full kitchen, a living room, threebedrooms, and three bathrooms. All the suites on her floor wereidentical, but she thought the end unit had the best view. Not onlydid she have a balcony in the master bedroom, but the living roomhad a balcony as well, and both had terrific views of BelleRiver.

The door slammed shut. The deadbolt clicked, and the security bar—strong enough to withstand a shifter trying toget inside—was thrown, thunking against the security door. Alaric’sbag dropped with a dull thud on the ceramic tile of the foyer, andhis eyes, still a beautiful, glowing gold, stared at her.

“If you want to talk, we need to talk fast,”he said, his voice rough.

Part of her thought that talking was a goodidea. They were strangers, after all, and she wasn’t the sort ofgirl who normally let guys tumble between the sheets with her untilshe had known them for a while and cared about them. But there wassomething very different about Alaric. She didn’t know him at all,but she also felt like they were old souls. He wasn’t trying to getinto her pants so he could notch his bedpost. He wanted to matewith her because they were meant to be together. Truemates. Not achosen mate, like some of her wolf friends who would pick a matebased on mutual attraction and not soul-deep connections—but themost primal, perfect mating there could be. His beast would neveraccept anyone but her, and even though she wasn’t a shifter, sheknew that she wanted Alaric and no one else forever.
