My mom leans forward. “Oshin?”

“Aye.”

“And what are they coming for?” Brun asks.

“Why, to see the great orc king, of course. The—”

“—greatest in all the land,” I gasp.

“Ye remembered,” Grumpy says, his voice thick with sudden emotion.

I can barely see him through my blurred smile. “I remember.”

Chapter Eighteen

––––––––

SHALIA:

WHILE MY MEMORY isn’t completely there, it gets better each day. There just doesn’t seem to be enough hours in the day.

I spent mornings visiting with the moms and Hisa a few days a week. Bakog’s mom also had amnesia as a child, so she understands my plight, though she assures me it’s much worse to forget as many years as I have. She only had six that she lost, though she regrets they were of the time when she knew Brun when they were children.

I spend a lot of time with my adorable twin brothers who never fail to lighten my heart.

I spend time with my love, Bakog. Sometimes we take the boys to give my mom a break, or to give her time with my dad.

And then, I spend time with my dad, grandfather, and Brun in training time. Sometimes Hisa shows up. Sometimes members of the royal guard do. No one is surprised that I killed Wruk, though he was my first actual kill.

My mate was my second.

I have two slain kings under my belt, a fact that Brachard loves to brag about. Claims I take after my father, the original king-slayer. Completely ignores the fact that both the kings I killed were rather lacking. Mayhap the twins could have done them in.

It’s right after lunchtime and Hisa and I just returned from taking Latjo and Silann swimming in the creek. We were joined by Vinshesa and Grunalda and Bessica, all with little ones in tow that they’d grabbed from other tents. Soon we had practically every child in the village in the gurgling creek and they were so hungry from all the playing, it took little time to round them up and get them to the kitchens, where their own parents were waiting.

It’s about time for me to seek out my love, because I’m missing him something fierce. Then, someone sneaks up behind me and strong arms sweep me up, spinning me around.
